Would be interested to see the market research & qualitative data used to 'green-light' production. It doesn't appear to be particularly useful for carry-on purposes, and therefore unviable at that price point. I'd be very surprised if focus groups were even consulted.

As others have noted, its tech features (scale + security + tracking) are more applicable to check-in luggage. Sadly, it didn't take many posts to come to this conclusion.

    Interesting concept; poor offering.

lol - it's a tech offering. Since when do tech offerings ever make first generation products feasible? It's about getting the early adopters (as seen above) and tech freaks. By release 2-3 they will begin to become more useful.

Hell, look at the first ipad (and each successive iteration)

It does look pretty interesting and as someone who travels frequently might be interested in it. The price tag is still pretty high and since a lot of time I'm roughing it I would be concerned about losing it in the Third World.

ATW after you use it can you post a follow up of what you thought about it?

Sure - estimated delivery date is December, so it will take a while.

Where did you read that? This is what I found:

Bluesmart's suitcase has a SIM-card embedded inside it, courtesy of a tie-up with mobile operator Telefonica. That SIM is included in the price of the suitcase, so there's no monthly fee, and it gives you the case's location on a map via the accompanying app, should it get lost.

For me, the biggest draws are the ability to charge my phone/laptop easily while at the airport (I fly a lot), it has 4 wheels (most other quality carry-ons with 4 wheels are usually almost at the this price point already, if not more), and because the GPS feature is just cool.

why just use this for traveling? Road trips and daily use to and fro work would be nice. Unless it's that humongous. It's the size of a large carry-on right?

It seems like most of the features (lock, GPS tracking) would be better for checked luggage and not carry on. The built in chargers are pretty cool.

If this was my business play, I'd prove the model and then license the technology to a real luggage company that makes high quality bags, like Travel Pro.

Frequent flyers look for stuff like volume, ease of movement/rolling, weight of bag, high quality materials to take a beating, etc. Adding this tech to a bag that already has a lot of those things would make sense, rather than try to build from scratch.

I doubt you'll be able to charge a laptop with this, the battery on this thing is 10,000 mah and its highly unlikely the output amperage is high enough to charge a laptop.
FYI, you can buy a a 10,000mah external battery bank for about $12

It may have been addressed, but I'm curious how TSA would react to such a "device" coming through.
