i went in there once a few years ago to buy a gift for someone's kid. that's about the extend of my toys r us experience.
Never went as a kid since my parents didn't make much money. First time I really set foot in one was when I was 20 and I got a bit of sticker shock from the prices. Gave me more perspective to why my parents were never able to take me. My toys typically consisted of dollar store knockoffs and me turning them into other toys by wrapping them with aluminum foil. Still makes me laugh when i think about it.
Announced conversion to Chapter 7 this morning. It is very sad to me. ToyRUs was special growing up, and a place I take my kids. My local store sucks, but the bigger locations are still an experience (none more than the now closed Times Square location). They really failed to change with the time. Sure they are more expensive than Walmart or Amazon, but so is every specialty store and they had plenty of sales and sometimes crazy Clearance. The really unfortunate thing is there is nothing similar most places. My 2 year old daughter may never have the chance to know what it is like to go into a toy store. Then again, maybe they won't care. Phones, tablets, and video games have replaced toys as the main source of entertainment.
Toys R Us video games: No papers, I guess they don't have this game. I guess I'll get this one with 10 papers. Go to cashier. We are out of this game. Ask about other game with no papers, oh we have that one in stock. I really hate video games there.
OK yall, I am seriously considering buying one of these Toys R Us locations but first I have an important question.... Is it Prime eligible?
I didn't get to go much as a kid but I always wanted to. When I had a kid of my own I went to the one attached to Babies R Us and it was pitiful.
The one near our house has aged considerably over the years, still a ton of over priced toys from thou. My two kids will do anything to get a chance to go there. I take them as a reward for earning straight A's to pick out whatever item they want. Will have to find a new reward mechanism now.
Its not the same experience, The whole trip anticipation planning on what they are going to get as they walk the aisles. Its not the same online and isnt easily shared as a family unit.
whenever I think of Toys r us their catchy theme song would pop into my head I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid they got a million toys at Toys R us that I can play with
From bikes to trains to video games, it's the biggest toy store there is. I don't wanna grow up because if i did, i wouldn't be a Toys R Us kid
Reminds me of: I don't wanna throw up But I already did. I got to the potty but forgot to lift the lid!
