This is real hard, I'll take a quick shot, in no particular order: Joshua Tree ZZ-Top Greatist's Hits (yeah it is a compellation, but it rocks. It is my commute CD for the time being) LZ-4 Dark Side of the Moon Brother's Keeper (Neville Brothers) My tastes are a bit closer to RM's, but after all it is all taste right? I have listened to Dave Mathews (Crash is great) and Phish quite a bit lately, seen Widespread put on a couple of great shows as well, but don't know their albums. ------------------ "The Rockets were ahead of the Suns by 20 late in game 2 of the series, but when the going got tough, we just Pippened . We would not be done in the series though."
If you're mentioning the top groups of all time, why hasn't anyone brought up the name Boyz II Men. The greatest R&B group ever! ------------------

I don't know about bands... but I'll just state who are my favorites of the new generation: D'Angelo - no words to describe him. He does all his own music (instruments, arrangements, and vocals). Maxwell - I believe the best singer out there today, hands down. The new Marvin Gaye Lauryn Hill - Versatile, soulful with hip-hop edginess. No one sounds like her. She's in a class of her own. Busta Rhymes - No one can rhyme like Rhymes. Everyone else sounds the same. Busta stands out. I love these guys. ------------------ "One who conquers others is strong; One who conquers himself is mighty" - Lao Tzu
1. Lenny Kravitz - this man puts on an excellent show as well, absolutely explosive! 2. Dave Mathews Band - Have been to see them each time they come to Dallas 3. Third Eye Blind - A great band with two great albums 4. Counting Crows 5. Splender These are all modern bands or artists, but I like all kinds of music, new and old, jazz, rock, techno, r&b, blues, etc. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
1.Rage Against the Machine 2.311 3.Beastie Boys 4.Pink Floyd I can't wait until the Rhyme and Reason 2000 tour. ------------------ please venture to atheistalliance and rocketsonline I AM SPARTACUS

What's Going On -- Marvin Gaye If it's Live Shows (based on what I've seen): 5. Public Enemy 4. U2 3. Rolling Stones 2. Ween 1. Carlos Santana ------------------
Its too late for me to think of an entire list, with the countless number of great artists, bands and groups that have revolutionized music and soared it to new heights. But one legend I'm listening to a lot lately is Bob Marley. Great music. Soothes the body and lightens up the soul. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey.
Vocally, Freddie Mercury was absolutely brilliant and put with his charisma made him one of, if not the, best frontman of any band. But then abain I'm biased as I think Queen were one of the best grous ever, especially the early stuff like A Night at the Opera etc. As for top 5 lists, I think that's too hard to do so I'll just sit on this fence and put up with the splinters in my @$$! ------------------ [This message has been edited by sid (edited July 08, 2000).]

My faves... 5) Teena Marie- Extremely underrated- Lady T can flat out sing! 4) Aerosmith- Lots of catchy tunes, and all their albums have been great. 3) Janet Jackson- "The Velvet Rope" alone put her up here... 2) Madonna- She's been around a long time and is still churning out good songs. I prefer her 80's stuff... 1) Michael Jackson- He's been around longer than Madonna(which in itself is a remarkable feat) and has his fair share of great songs. The man is just amazing. Hmmm... two of my top three are Jacksons... Guess that kind of stuff does run in the family. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL... next year, at least. Singers/voices: Sarah Vaughan-none better Ella Fitzgerald-well, Ella Comes Close Cab Calloway-hep, baby, hep Otis Redding-died too early - way too much soul Aretha Franklin-Not Sarah overall, but best of soul Elmore James-you could feel his blues Buddy Holly-ahead of his time Best Albums: Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bullocks... - not the originals, but the first full album - I have to love music that is based on a philosophical theory. Beatles - Abbey Road - most wualify, but this is the best for me. Mahler - Symphony #4 - romanticism at its best. John Coltrane - anything. The Harper Brothers - Remembrance -not as good as some jazz players, but this is just a solid live performance that makes me happy. R. Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders - Chaisin Rainbows - great old-style music - Crumb cannot sing, but he sure can draw. This can continue for years, but that would be silly, so I end here. ------------------ "One evening I seated Beauty on my knees. And I found her bitter." "I am a sick man...I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts." [This message has been edited by rimbaud (edited July 10, 2000).]
One person that I forgot to put on the list is Prince/the Sign/Artist/Former whatever. At his best, I think he was the greatest musician I can think of anywhere. The guy was awesome! He writes all his songs(which if you listen to the words he says, you get chills each and every time. The song Adore is probably the most beautiful song I ever heard), performed them, arranged them, and the greatest talent that man has is he can play 21 different instruments FLUENTLY. He writes the score for each instrument that you hear in his album! That is talent my friends. But, the best thing I like about him is that he has been with the most beautiful women I have ever seen in the 80's. Remember Apollonia? What about Sheena Easton? Sheila E.? Vanity! Tina Turner? Donna Summer. Etc. Etc. Damn, the boy is my idol!!! ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan
