kobe has a chance to surpass shaq. he signed a $90M extension for 3 years (i believe) so he will be about $40M behind shaq if you count shaq's demands for a 2 year mle deal which he will get.

can kobe earn another $40M when he's done with this contract in 3 years? i'd say so. he would just need to cut his salary in half (down to about $14M) and ride that out for 3 years until he retires.

article explains why Jordan isn't on list:

[rquoter]Now, like myself, the first thing you may notice is that Michael Jordan is nowhere to be found on this list, and this is because 2/3 of Michael Jordan’s NBA money was made in the ’97 and ’98 seasons in which he made $30 and $33 million, respectively. Up until that point, MJ had only made $29 million in the previous 11 seasons, which I’m sure does not bother the GOAT one bit as he is now worth of $500 million.

Here is the Breakdown of MJ’s career earnings by season:

The idea of the likes of Stephon Marbury and Vince Carter being compensated more than Michael Jordan for anything basketball related is mind blowing to me.

To think that Joe Johnson just signed a contract worth more than what Michael Jordan made his entire career as a player…

The saddest part about this list you ask?

There are only 7 players who have at least one ring on this list[/rquoter]

You apparently missed the era when superstars weren't paid super big.

Paul Pierce should be on this list. B-R says he's made 123 million over his career.

Out of curiosity I checked to see how these players rank in total salary earned per win share. Its not the greatest measure of how overpaid players are, because you obviously wouldn't have earned as much if you played in the 80s or 90s. Still, interesting.

I see you have a Rocket up there at number 7 and no Bulls players or Miami Heat players. I guess all those crazy naysayers saying you can make more with the Bulls and Heat are absoluelty 100% wrong now? Well that doesnt mean anything now that theyve help convince Bosh otherwise and perpetuate that myth even further. Well Shaq played 3 years with them before they got rid of him. I guess that counts?

Jordan (with Bird/Magic laying the groundwork) made it possible for all those names on the list to make that kind of money. The NBC TV contract from 1990-2002 afforded to have teams get larger salary caps and therefore pay more for the superstars. And Jordan was the driving force behind it all, he was a marketing and TV rating bonanza.

Well technically you could count Mourning withthe Heat at one time and Dekimbo Mutumbo with us too. Since players change teams so much. Still one Rocket who spent most of his money making career and money earned here.

Actually no the Rockets have three players up there. Juwon Howard too and he played a good portion of his career here. The money argument people almost seem like plants from other teams now. LOL!

This is basketball salary only. Whether or not a player can make more money playing in Chicago or Miami versus Houston has nothing to do with this list.

....You realize due to CBA, you make the same amount regardless of where you sign. It's just that a team has to be willing to pay you that much. The making more refers to the fan base in terms of endorsement deals. Heat actually has a smaller market. Not sure of where you heard that he would make more money as a heat. In fact, they wanted him to take a pay cut so they can afford 3 max deals.

I think you are getting your facts mixed up.
