    My guess is Reed and Rizzo. Though, it would not surprise me if HeyNow was pulling a fast one and putting one of the guys like Singleton (though don't think he was as good in minors as these numbers) that was great in minors, but never good in majors instead of Rizzo.

    Not a tough guess as Rizzo is the current example for being patient with young players, plays same position as Reed, and likely was a beast in the minors. Though, technically, if Bear is correct, I flipped them.

    Correct!

    Since his debut season, Rizzo: 3,051 PA .273/.366/.494/.861; three top 10 MVP finishes. There is a SMALL caveat: Rizzo spent his rookie year in Petco so *some* of ascension may have been park-related-ish. BUT.... point stands: young, power-hitting 1B with good eyes don't always arrive ready for prime time.

    If you want a reason to talk yourself into AJ Reed this year, there ya go...

    He's currently 27 so he was around 18 thru 22 in the minors.

    Rizzo was ~ 15 months younger than Reed was - but totaled 700 more minor league plate appearances. It's a damn-near 1:1 match, all things considered.

    And, BTW, it's ultimately predictative of absolutely nothing. It's just an interesting counter to any notion that the book has been written about AJ Reed.

    By itself, it isn't predictive. Some projection systems will be based on similar players (i.e. Historical comps). Rizzo's production is likely one of many that Reed's projections are based on, but it is likely the high end outlier.

    God the Padres are stupid for trading Rizzo for Cashner.

    That is my worst nightmare. Letting Reed go because of our impatience for a #3-4 pitcher

    The dynamic of that deal was much different, though: two struggling teams trading struggling young prospects. And Epstein knew Rizzo (originally drafted him, IIRC).

    The Astros are certainly not irresponsible when it comes to trading prospects. And the names most often associated with them are, at least on paper, front-line starters.
