Is loyalty a thing, in baseball?

As someone who doesn't watch baseball, should I be surprised that the Giants aren't offering him money right off the bat?

 

Sign him up. We need another borderline 5th starter to battle with Feldman, Fister, Fiers and McHugh.

 

Would the Rockets offer T-mac or Steve Francis a contract if either announced they were going to come back and play?

 

Lincecum had a 5.18 ERA in 33 starts in 2012 and a 4.37 ERA in 32 starts in 2013. During this time, he was on a 2 year, $40.5M contract.

After those 2 fairly awful years, he was rewarded with a 2 year, $35M contract that he played out with SF with 4.74 and 4.13 ERAs during which he couldn't hold a spot in the starting rotation in either year for the entire season.

So yeah, I think the Giants have been incredibly loyal and paid their debt to the former multiple Cy and multiple WS winner
