What are you talking about? Lay out your reasons. What nuance? All I've heard from you is tragic death of a retired player. It's absolutely awful, but retiring his number league wide doesn't make sense. Especially because Moses' number is already retired here, he's passed on as well, and lots of players will want to wear Kobe's number because of Kobe. Retire his numbers and no one can pay that homage to him.

Lots should be done to honor his life, his contributions to the game, but a league wide retirement of his number doesn't make sense.

If tragic helicopter crash of a great player is the qualifier, I'd rather they retire Stevie Ray Vaughn's number.

with the amount of Lakers fans I see and personally know around here, no way that’s true lol

another organization retiring a player’s jersey when he has zero connection to them or the city kinda feels like a force to me

I’m picturing MJ’s initial reaction to learning that Miami of all places is retiring his jersey being

What is his connection to the Heat organization? Absolutely nothing. LA will celebrate Kobe’s life, and every one else will do their part to honor his legacy which I don’t think needs to go as far as retiring his jersey. Philly retiring his jersey? Ok, it’s his home town. Dallas and Houston?

I also like the idea of people who were inspired by Kobe while growing up being able to wear his jersey number. A lot of people wore 23 because of MJ, and Kobe was basically MJ for an entire generation who idolized him as a player and competitor. You’ll see them doing the same with Kobe.

Settle down everyone. He was one of the top 4-10 players of all time and he died in a tragic crash, not fighting for our country or saving kids from a burning building or something.

At the very least you have to put Wilt, LeBron, and MJ ahead of him and the conversation can start from there. It’s still hard to believe he only had 1 MVP season.

It sucks he died. But people are waaaaay over reacting. His number has zero to do with the Rockets.

It does though. That's the worst part. Chairmen of the Boards is being disrespected here.. probably on purpose because the OP is a troll.

No conspiracy -- everyone can judge the incidents themselves.

Anyway, i say we reach out to the Lakers and ask them to retire Ralph Sampson's jersey.

Honestly I can see them doing some kind of symbolic 8/24 special banner to honor Kobe . It won’t interfere with other players jerseys retired .... I don’t know just a thought . I see both views though. I could see the WNBA Sparks retiring his daughter jersey number too that she used .

Well Tilman wouldn't retire his jersey. He's from Houston.

But Les Alexander would because a Chinese Rockets Kobe jersey would sell and make lots of money.

    Score 1 for Tilman.
