This team is not enjoyable to watch or fun to root for

Part of fandom is rooting for your team no matter what.

But got to call a spade a spade.

Dribble dribble isn’t fun to watch.

Running or jumping into people to try and draw fouls isn’t fun to watch.

50+ threes every game regardless of situation isn’t fun to watch.

I don’t “really” enjoy rooting for this team. Just want them to win because I’m a fan. I value rings over like ability. But we aren’t seeing any rings.

Media doesn’t just hate Houston or the Rockets randomly. They just find them hard to watch. This will continue through the Harden era and especially Harden and CP3 combined.

Personally I’d prefer to get back to having fun rooting for a team.

The finality of all of it last night was the THREE ON ONE when my god if I didn’t know better I’d say it LOOKED like Green was truly questioning if he should somehow find a way to get a three out of that fast break. What in the living fuuck was that?

Is Morey in their heads that much?

No, he's not. Gerald Green is just a dumbass. In that situation, you attack the rim hard 100 out of 100 times.

There’s lots of fun players and teams throughout the league though. They haven’t all been as consistently successful at getting 50+ wins or making it at least to the second round... but they’re getting there or easy to root for.

    Nuggets being the best example.

But I honestly enjoyed the 10ish Kings games I watched this year more than most Rockets games.

Sometimes there’s a correlation with hard working but not amazing teams and fun to watch. I mean who didn’t enjoy watching the Clippers this year? The Rockets have had similar teams in the past. And that gets tiring after a few years as well... though partially because the players themselves eventually wear of it and don’t play the same way.

But you can of course also be really good and really fun to watch.

Also eventually a team culture runs its course. Organizational culture is top down. For the Rockets that would start with the owner or GM... and we certainly see those influences... but honestly in this star driven league it starts with your star. OKCs culture is Russ driven. GSW is Steph driven... even with KD.

Our culture is Harden driven. This is who he is. Incredibly polarizing. Shrinks in big moments (notwithstanding he was “solid” this series... down the stretch he wasn’t really). Frustrating player to watch, even as a fan.

Such a dumb play lol. It wasn’t just Gerald. What was PJ doing?? Very frustrating to watch as usual.

Great post, and agree about your 'team systems' comments largely being driven by their mix of stars and role players.

Lots of folks didn't enjoy the Pistons championship teams, as their style was 25% WWE (Laimbeer) and 75% basketball (Isaiah / Dumars).
Most NBA fans outside of Houston, disliked the Hakeem championship teams, which was the same 'dump it to Hakeem' inside/out attack on every play. His greatness alone made that one dimensional system work.

The showtime Lakers were fun to watch, with everyone involved and the ball never stopping - much like the Warriors.
The Bird-led Celtics teams were fun to watch for the same reason as the showtime Lakers.

We're an ISO team, and that form of basketball is neither fun to watch or play compared to Rick Adelman's systems, the Warriors or Showtime.
OKC with Westbrook is much the same with ISO, but less 3 pointers.

Right. There’s no world where slow down ISO ball is more fun to watch, apples to apples, than classic ball movement.

If one produces rings, then it’s certainly fun for that team and it’s fans. We’ve pushed this style to the extreme. It’s not producing rings.

But you don’t have to fly around non-stop to be fun to watch either, imo. There’s plenty of middle ground.

True, if nothing else PJ had a wide open three and passed on it, just brain farts all around. It looked like the pressure got to everyone but Paul last night

3s are a part of it but good shot selection is something. going to basket with layups instead of 3s. Close shots should be more frequent instead of 3s.

Fast breaks with 3 instead of layup is tired.

I enjoy the fact that in iso no one can stop harden. I wish it involved more passing or using hardens awesome ability to drive and get past defenders in a way where maybe it just creates other players close shot.

Taking a 3 for 3 sake a having guys like anderson or green shooting from parking lot is not fun either.

Sign some specialists at 3 sure like a dale ellis or ray allen type but have that in role not all players. Emphasis on defense too.

James Harden in the series against the Warriors. 33 Assists to 23 Turnovers. That’s a 1.43 A/T ratio. Which was actually even lower than his 1.51 regular season average. Pathetic.

Sure he scores a lot but at what cost? Can’t turn the ball over like that against the Warriors. Dribbling and running the clock down to no less than 7 seconds every time before finally deciding to pass it off is setting your teammates up for failure.

Our offense is ugly and boring cause there’s no rhythm or rhyme. No ball movement, no cutting and if guys go cold.... Forget about it. He’s the ultimate ball stopper and there’s no reason why he should be dominating the rock like that with Paul around.

This is the reason the Rockets players struggle to make basketball plays late in the season. Playoff teams force you into your 3rd and 4th actions. Rockets don’t have 3rd and 4th actions. All they’ve done is sit around and shoot 3s all season.

The best analogy is the rockets tends to try fit a square peg into a round hole too often.

The harden and capaela duo is just as bad as the Steve Francis and Yao Ming early years.

It was like Francis does all the work and Yao got paid regardless.

We all loved watching the Lowry/Brooks/Landry/Scola Rocket scrap their way to wins.

A lovable underdog is much more enjoyable to watch than a hollow star team, any time.

The Warriors secret sauce is blending talent with scrappers in a perfect mix. (...And adding a ***** MVP diva who didn't want to try hard.) I think Curry, Thompson and Green are VASTLY overrated by themselves. Put any one of them on the Suns and see how it goes. It's the same with Ginobili and Parker (Duncan was legit). But yet, put them together, and you get a dynasty.

The Rockets haven't found that team that brings the best out of each other. It's James playing with one and only one speed, and everyone else deferring and playing helter skelter.

You want to see your players put it all out there. I didn't even like what I saw from this team in the Jazz series, the OKC game, or a number of other things over the last couple of years.

I'm not running out to buy anyone's jersey. The love just isn't there. The Rockets don't show any love for the game in their game.

Also doesn't help that Harden starts his 1st action with 8 seconds left on the shot clock..

What's even more frustrating is that when they were desperate towards the end they shot it early in the shot clock and scored everything, like you couldn't have done that earlier when the game wasn't already over

i think that's what really get alot of us. Where was the sense of urgency the rockets showed in game 3 and 4. they absolutely wanted to win those games at all costs. bodies were flying, emotions were extremely high. It was night and day.

they were spoon fed an opportunity and couldnt' capitalize for 12 mins in game 5 or for 48 mins in an elimination game at home. the city of houston has every right to be flat out sick about the rockets product these last 2 games.

they did themselves 0 favors about the future outlook of this very team. nobody should be excited about the near future if this team remains what it is.
