Dude I hope you’re right. Not only because I’m a rockets fan, but also because I drafted Capela in fantasy.
In this NBA a center has no chance at being a superstar without a 3 point shot. All Star thou, I can see it in the east but not the West
For me, Capela just has to maintain the same production as last year. Get those rebounds and block those shots. He needs to be "consistent" and a difference maker each night. Not fade in and out. And he needs to maintain his stamina. He is at his best with high energy. That is his value add. Out running centers and the 2nd and 3rd jumps for rebounds. He just needs to focus on on those things. He doesn't even needs to "add" to his game as much as "refine" his best traits. Just do that. Stay within himself.
I don't ever see him becoming a superstar. I believe Hakeem should continue to work with him and Nene too. Their veteran experience will help him to become a more consistent player within his skill set.
I would settle for this being the year Holic acknowledges that Capela is really good and that he was very wrong about him. Or is that the first sign of the end times?
Damn... no one gonna say anything about his hair? Thought we traded for Dennis Schröder for a second.
Clint was by far the biggest disappointment of the night. If we are gonna play small ( which we kinda have to ... we dont have other personell) Clint has to be a MAN and dominate inside.
Anyone who knows a bit more about advanced statistics? According to NBA.com, opponents are shooting 66.5 percent from within five feet of the basket when facing Clint Capela, which is 7th worst mark for players qualified (min 500 FGA defended). Meanwhile, one of best such marks has Kyle Kuzma at 4th place, who is considered to be an awful defender. I don't get it...what's going on here?
Individual defensive stats are garbage. For example, Anthony Davis is also at 63.5% one of the worst in the league. Team defense, opponents and backups are generally inextricably linked to these kinds of stats. Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard would look statistically mediocre if they played for the Suns. We're one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. That's why you have Harden, Gordon and Tucker up there as well. No one can overcome a defense that constantly breaks down.
I'm beginning to believe stamina is a continued issue. While Capela's minutes are up by 6-7 mpg, I believe his number of jumps on defense has remained the same. Dude needs to jump as high as he can a lot more on defense, rather than rely on his length. nba.com can measure distance run, and apparently even number of strides, sure wish we could get a number of jumps on defense, too. lulz Jump Capela, Jump!!
From the eye test, it feels like his "timing" on blocks (when he is blown by) is off. He is late A LOT on those. In the playoffs he could be blown by but recover to block the shot. That was HUGE. This season he is LATE on all of those. And it makes him a lot worse on switches with guards that are taking advantage of him. Is it stamina? Did he put on more weight? I don't know.
