Theory: Reason for inconsistency? Almost every Rockets' loss comes to teams with good front courts..

I was wondering why the Rockets struggle with certain teams, no matter if the team has a great record or a bad one. And one thing I noticed was the teams the Rockets struggle with all have good front courts.

Do the Rockets beat teams with good front courts sometimes? Yes. But if you check the box scores, in almost every win against a team with a good front court, the Rockets shot an incredible percentage from 3. Like 45-50% from 3.

So what is the pattern for why the Rockets struggle against teams with good front courts? I'm guessing that since the Rockets shoot mostly either 3's or close-range shots, if a team is successful at lowering the Rockets' FG% close to the rim, they stop their offense.

If the Rockets are having trouble scoring close to the basket, and they are only shooting their average of 35% from 3, then they are going to struggle. The only way they can compete and win games against teams with good front courts is when they shoot a ridiculous percentage from 3.

And on the other side of the ball, when good front-court players demand so much attention down low, it opens up the court for the perimeter players and the Rockets' sub-par perimeter defense gets exposed.

Considering we don't have a backup C, and until recently were playing with only 2 big men (Howard and Jones), this is highly unsurprising.

What the team needs is a veteran big man to add to the 'bigs' rotation. They don't need to be an all-star, but we're a rotation quality big short at the moment. Doesn't have to be someone who STARTS, but needs to be someone who is close to starter quality.

If Asik and Greg Smith come back and DMo and TJones continue to improve we'll be okay. It's actually one of the things that excites me about the post season. We are starting to come around with the development of DMo and SMALLBALL with Harden, Lin and Beverly is only in it's infancy. We will be fine.

when asik comes back and we get CASSPI out of the rotation as a PF we will be better vs front courts like OKC, GRIZZLIES, CLIPPERS. I know casspi does ok some nights when we play small ball but we are at that point where we need to start preparing this team for playoffs and CASSPI does not belong out there at PF.

Youth, inexperience, and unfamiliarity with each other. Same reason why "read and react" looks so choppy or stagnant at times. An addition of veteran floor general might be more significant than a legit stretch 4, at this point.

against teams with good rim protection, we need more mid range shots... harden is especially good. parsons is solid. lin is ok when he's confident. brooks is a beast when it's his day, etc.

With the exception of okc, we get killed by teams pounding/stretching our pfs, i'm not overly sure why this should surprise anyone.

Harden and Howard inconsistent and immature attitude. They have the ball most of the time.

    Period.

A change in coaches/coaching philosophy would have an even greater impact.
