word from san antonio this morning has it that tim duncan will announce today at a 3:00 press conference that he is staying in san antonio. david robinson, who was vacationing in hawaii with his wife, has already scheduled a flight to arrive in san antonio at 1:00 today, presumably to be there for the announcement. tim has not said anything directly, yet, but these signs have been on every radio station in san antonio this morning. so, looks like the midwest will be the typical I-10 fight this year. ------------------ miles ahead of the rest

If so, Orlando is not going to be all the rage. I sure hope it's a one year contract! ------------------
no terms have been leeked....errrr, mentioned....that i know of. however, there is talk - albeit in very small circles - about a monstrous "signing" bonus. ------------------ miles ahead of the rest
Cato's value goes up. Both to the Rockets and to the teams that wanted Duncan. Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. Use clear wording for new threads 3. No duplicate threads 4. Conduct yourself like an adult The Serious Police are watching All will be assimilated.
Again, I thought nothing could be announced until August 1st. Also, I didn't think signing bonuses were allowed in the NBA. I don't buy it, sorry. ------------------ Just because you're white and play basketball doesn't mean you're a Matt Bullard clone, despite idiotic accusations to the contrary. visit www.swirve.com
I dug around at the www.woai.com site and it talks about this being a big weekend, but never mentions a 3 pm news conference. Sounds more like the Admiral is supposed to come back and give a sales pitch to Tim. Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. Use clear wording for new threads 3. I will still stick by my word of Duncan to the Rockets in a sign&trade this summer. ------------------ "I wanna eat his children." [This message has been edited by thacabbage (edited July 07, 2000).]
thacabbage, I know that you have made that call in the past, but how is it kept so quiet? Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. Use clear wording for new threads 3. you're right. nothing can be announced in the way of "signings" right now. however, it is a well-known fact that tim has said he will announce his decision on where he will play by the end of this week. this is one of the few things he has said outright. here's an interesting curveball for you, though. guess who else is in san antonio? derek anderson. he has been highly sought after in s.a. this would seem to indicate a double announcement. however, i just heard from a very reliable co-worker that paul pressey is in town too. now why would an orlando coach be in sa for this day, as well? ------------------ miles ahead of the rest
thacabbage, At least the Rockets draft did nothing to disrupt that possibility. They drafted a player who has enough size to log minutes at center and step outside for his shots. If they would have drafted somebody that can only play the 4 or a 5 that has range of 10' and in, then your hopes would have been dashed. Plus they generated an extra draft pick to throw in a trade package. Still a real long shot to happen. Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. I've never heard Duncan say that he will announce his intentions by the end of this week. Why would he? You're probably getting your info from Jay Howard, Mr. Disillusioned himself. ------------------ Just because you're white and play basketball doesn't mean you're a Matt Bullard clone, despite idiotic accusations to the contrary. visit www.swirve.com
Paul Pressey probably has a home in SA, right (longtime Spur, assistant coach, broadcaster)? Wouldn't think him being in town would be much of a surprise. I believe Grant Hill has already informed Dumars that he is leaving, so Duncan making an announcement this early is quite plausible, IMO. ------------------ I Hate Every Bone in Your Body But Mine
its three o'clock! espn news will have a camera at the press conference, let me check. ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
And the big word is: Gregg Popovich has told reporters to stop calling him because Duncan han't made up his mind yet. Big conference there. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
As unlikely the fantasy of Duncan signing with the Rockets is, it would make Houston's "stupid/idiotic/waste/throw-in-any-other-adjective-used-by-a-rocket-fan-the-past-few-weeks" draft picks make a heck of a lot more sense. thacabbage, I know you warned us of the bleak chances, but please don't play with my emotions, man. We came into the summer thinking Jason Collier was our big man of the future, now imagine coming out of it with some guy called Duncan in place of him. The mere thought could give the weak heart problems. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey. It's nice to know that there is still some sense of loyalty among some players in the NBA. It's especially nice to know that that quality is a class act such as Duncan. ------------------ "One who conquers others is strong; One who conquers himself is mighty" - Lao Tzu
how has duncan been loyal? ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
Just a thought speaking of character. The last time there was this much excitement about a player with "character", the Rockets got a player by the name of OlajuWON. hummmmm ------------------
