Probably need to get over your hopes then because there is almost zero chance they are going to hire Kyle as the head coach here.
You're not hearing that from anyone that has a clue. McNair said yesterday that to even be considered he wants them to have head coaching experience.
Except he has a career record of 81-63 instead of 61-63, led his team to a Super Bowl berth and conference championship game, was fired after a 10-6 season instead of an 11-game losing streak and his defensive prowess remained top-notch to the end unlike Kubiak's stale, predictable play-calling. If you took a poll of Bears fans right now, I bet 75% of them wish Lovie was still there. A year from now, 0% of Texans fans will wish Kubiak was still Texans coach.
Theses guys have been away from the game for a while would cost a big paycheck and they would have there demands over the roster/team. Zimmerman on the other hand would light a fire under there ass everyday.
The Houston Texans fired head coach Gary Kubiak yesterday. The search for a replacement is already underway and our John Clayton listed some candidates here. Among them are ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, Bengals OC Jay Gruden, 49ers OC Greg Roman, and former Bears coach Lovie Smith. By some accounts, Smith is an early frontrunner for the job. Texans owner Bob McNair said he'd like to hire someone with both head coaching experience and NFL experience, asserting also that he does not envision the new leader undertaking a rebuilding project. McNair was asked during the press conference about Smith, who, as Bears coach for nine years, went 81-63 with three NFC North titles and one Super Bowl appearance. “There are some people who are not coaching now that will be considered and Lovie is a good example,” McNair said. “He’s a good coach and one of several. It will be best for the whole process to keep it confidential as to who we actually decide to visit with as we go forward.” McNair and GM Rick Smith can interview Smith immediately, as Smith did not coach this year in the NFL. Smith is a native Texan and fits the bill in terms of head coaching and NFL experience. One may think McNair was merely responding to a question asked but Smith seems to be the logical frontrunner, if only slightly, at the moment. Other names on the table are Stanford head coach David Shaw, Bengals RB coach Hue Jackson, and Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt.
Bob McNair will need to Gary Kubiak him and select the OC. During Lovie's time in Chicago they had routinely one of the worst offenses in the NFL. 2004 Offense 32 2005 29 2006 15 2007 27 2008 26 2009 23 2010 30 2011 24 2012 28 http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/SmitLo0.htm
David Cutcliffe. Anyone that Peyton Manning spends every summer to train with/learn from is an elite offensive mind in my book. And anyone that can turn Duke freaking football into a top 25 program is a boss. Also he's one of the few guys who consistently makes good, aggressive fourth down decisions, and he's fantastic with clock management. Not sure why anyone is suggesting conservative coaches like Lovie or Cowher
GOD NOOOO, the guy is still young and has alot of things to learn before taking that huge step, he'll get his chance one day but it's too early.
Gruden has been around the game, he has his own office in Florida where he watches films of the NFL on a daily basis and does his own scouting reports on players coming out of college and he interviews the top QBs each year from the draft.
I'm a Ken Wisenhunt fan. He turned around that San Diego offense. Rivers looks like a MVP. He has Super Bowl experience. I like Lovie Smith but I am not crazy about moving to a 4-3, plus I also think offense trumps defense these days. You absolutely need both but I would go with the best offensive head coach and keep Wade Phillips.
