Have any of you been checking out the doings at the "Shadow Convention", presented by Common Cause and chaired by Arianna Huffington? It is being covered on CSPAN. Very interesting and entertaining alternative to the "other" convention currently going on. Check it out! ------------------ Bring It!!
I watched McCain get booed and turned it off. They all turned on McCain just cause he supports his party's decision. It was unfair. ------------------ This, my friends, is a post.
Smokey, I turned on McCain (and I would have had a hard time not voting for him) because he sold himself out, which is entirely fair. John McCain rose to the forefront of politics early this year because he challenged the parties to reform. During his speech to the convention, he did not say a word about campaign finance reform. When he advocated Bush's nomination, he did so as a politician, not as a reformer... which makes him exactly what Dubyah criticized him for being back in March -- a hypocrite. ------------------ Dubyah: Because the picture on the newspaper. It just seems so un-American to me, the picture of the guy storming the house with a scared little boy there. I talked to my little brother, Jeb—I haven't told this to many people. But he's the governor of—I shouldn't call him my little brother--my brother, Jeb, the great governor of Texas. Jim Lehrer: Florida. Dubyah: Florida. The state of the Florida. —The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, April 27, 2000 Dubyah Speaks.
I thought he got booed because he didn't speak about campaign finance reform...only rah-rahed his support for Dubya. I may be wrong, though.... ------------------ Bring It!!
During his speech at the GOP Convention, McCain did not discuss Campaign Finance Reform because he did not want to bring attention to himself. Bush does not agree with McCain on CFR. The media would have made it the Bush vs. McCain Convention instead of the GOP Convention. He would have also caused tension among the delegates when the Republicans want to show that they are together as one. Instead McCain "soldout" CFR (reformer) for the greater good of his party and country. He lost fair and square to Bush. He does not want to be an outcast in the Republican Party. I can see this guy running in 2004 if Bush loses. Basically he did what he had to do. There will never be a third-party candidate president. The people at the Shadow Convention should not have booed McCain. He still believes in CFR, but he picked and chose his spots. I don't see him as a hypocrite although that seems like to be the definition of a hypocrite. ------------------ This, my friends, is a post.
