Ok, I wish we won the championship this year too. But we didn't, and pre-season we were never going to - the fact we did so well speaks volumes for Harden, the system, and the supporting cast. But JH ran out of gas - we need someone else who can be that 2nd star. What do we have to offer in trade bait? Who is essential to keep on the roster? What position do we want this second star to play? Big off-season coming up. Hopefully Morey can land a big fish. Realistically we don't have the assets to entice a team to give us a star, so we need to make a move to have max cap space and/or have a star who demands a trade here. An outside in man at the 4 spot might be handy? Griffin? Millsap? Or a shot-creator at the 3 spot?
I think Milsap would bring a much needed winning attitude and focus, that's something that can't be said about the majority of other FA's. Tonight showed, we need guys who play with heart when the game counts.
This should be the main focus of this team. We did better than anyone expected. We have pieces just need a something up front.
Agreed. he's my #1 FA guy. If we can basically dump Ryno and replace him with Milsap then that's perfect.
Maybe after tonight's game, should change the title to "The search for the first / main star" . Forgive me for the negativeness. Really a bad night for the Houston Rockets fans
Unfortunately, tonight's bed-sh!tting performance probably made it more difficult to attract the level of player we really need. A losing series against the Spurs is one thing, but when your team doesn't bother to show up, at home, in an elimination game, when the other team is missing two stars, AND your own superstar player looks like he'd rather be anywhere else than on the court... who in their right mind would think they'd be the missing piece to a ring here? This series, and in particular the last 65 minutes of play (4th Q of G3 through tonight) might have effectively chased away anyone who could really make a big difference here.
The Rockets don't need another star. They need role players who are good today, not guys who were a couple of seasons ago. No.1 priority should be signing James Johnson.
Gotta be realistic , we can be easily outbid for Paul George by multiple teams. Plus he seems hellbent on going to the Lakers, so there's that risk of trading for him.
James Johnson will bring grit to the team and he can shoot the three, block shots and rebound the basketball. We probably also need another good PF off the bench and another defender. The only way the Celtics hide Isaiah Thomas's bad defense is by placing Bradley, Crowder, Johnson and Al Horford - all above average (if not stellar) defenders around him. Doesn't hurt to have Brad Stevens as your coach either. And they bring Marcus Smart who's a hard nosed defender (albeit with a horrible FG%) off the bench. The Warriors hide Steph's bad defense by placing Draymond, Klay and now Durant next to him. McGee in the middle isn't too bad either. Enough of the offense because when the shots stop falling, you need a paint protector like Draymond to get you back in the transition game. We got RAPED on the boards in this series and it showed.
