Just a quick question: There was a rule that the announcers cited late in the game that stated if you hacked a player (read: Hack-a-Shaq) in the final 2 minutes, it was equivalent to a technical foul (one free throw by your best FT shooter and possession). Now, I don't know if I missed something, but is this a new rule and if so, when was it implemented? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Launch Pad (edited June 20, 2000).]
It's not a new rule. I'm pretty sure it dates back to the days when it was Hack-A-Wilt, not Hack-A-Shaq. ------------------
Of course, when it was Hack-a-Wilt, the fouls were a whole lot harder on Wilt thaan Shaq. ------------------ Its only my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
I don't know, but they've been talking about it an awful lot these playoffs, so you must not have been paying attention the last few games. I wanted to comment on what happened with 2:30 left though. Isn't it sad that the supposed MVP of the whole league has to be benched in the closing minutes because he can't make a free throw? ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Thanks guys. I guess I'm not familiar with the rule, because I've never seen it come up before. To be honest with you Cat, I usually turn down the volume and turn on some music, because I really hate NBC's announcers. I only had the volume up today, cause I had some friends over watching the game with me. ------------------
Yes, old rule. It only relates to the final two minutes as stated...unless Shaq had the ball in his possession. Then the normal rules apply. The only smart coaching Jackson did was to take Shaq out in the 4th until the 2 minute threshold hit. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
got a question about a proposed rule change the NBA was considering last off season. The thought was that a team could play whatever defense they wanted to on the strong side of the ball. Was this rule ever put into action or was it scraped all together? Just wondering if anyone knew anything about it... or if i made it up in my dreams one night. ------------------
On that proposed rule : They did finally approve a rule allowing teams to play zone defenses on the strong side. ------------------ Its only my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
