Please don't sink $100+ million into this guy. Some team will. Sink it into the line, instead. I'd much rather have a collective line than one guy like Clowney.

I'm alright with franchising this guy. But I don't think we should sign him long term.

He's an athletic freak, but long term breakdown concerns me. He relies too much on athleticism.

Oh, and he's about the biggest mental midget in the NFL.

Also, Watson will need a contract before Clowney's new deal is up.

Said this in the game thread but I wouldnt sign him to anything more than a Whitney Mercilus type of contract.

Franchise tag him and if he holds out trade him for a pick and use that money for an OL around Watson.

I don't agree at all with him being a mental midget. He's just aggressive, it's not like he's out of place, he's just trying to jump the snap. It happens.

Clowney dominates stopping the run and is a pretty good pass rusher, he's not going to be easily replaceable. I guess we'll see what happens.

When it's 3rd and one with the game on he line and you jump a hard count - you're a mental midget.

    He's too expensive, as well.

Kind of like when we let Mario walk. Tough decision, but the guy will not be half the player he is now when his second contract ends.

I've seen Watt also jump the snap on a hard count. It happens. That's why Luck did it. Clowney jumping the snap didn't lose us the game, nor did any of the Dline when the Colts were running max protection most of the game and the Texans never schemed to counter.

Agree (and felt that way prior to this week's (his weekly) dumbass offside/NZI penalty).

Franchise for the next 2 years if you want but long term deal? I'm good.

I can agree with Clowney not being responsible for the loss solely. But the guy only showed up when he lost the game for us.

Watt would never jump a snap when the game was literally on the line.

    Exactly.

No way you can pay this guy what he'll get. He'll get $100 million plus.

That will get us two pro bowl lineman, potentially with a little left to go towards Watson.

He must be yall scapegoat. Smh. Let him go to a different team and win a superbowl while Houston continues to play not to lose under a loser and true scapegoat like Bill O'Brien.

Seems that guys like Reader and Covington are producing twice as much as Clowney at less than half the price.

Pancakes makes it sound like Clowney was rushing out of the building, but in reality, he was probably walking at a normal pace.

JJ Watt has five seasons with more sacks than Clowney's career high.

Four seasons (and this willl probably be a fifth) with more tackles than Clowney's career high.

And Clowney will command a contract greater than JJ's.

I get it. He's a freak athlete and he makes flashy plays. Dude has never produced though.

If we can get him for a contract like Merci's, like others have said, I'm all for it.

Their production, by the way, is basically equal.

I guess I just don't see it that way. I'd always rather a guy be aggressive and get called for that then to sit back and get pushed off the line.

I feel Clowney is a true elite player, doesn't always show up in numbers, but opposing teams have to actually worry about him, avoid him, and plan for him.

I think the contract situation will work itself out, people need to remember Watt is no spring chicken here either and letting clowney go would mean possibly having to spend a draft pick on a dlineman when we still have other needs. I think we'll end up franchise tagging him, hopefully he'll be fine with that.

Beyond ticked off but the team should not have even been in that situation.

I think we'll franchise him for a year or two, as well.

If he doesn't turn a corner in those years, and I mean by producing at least 15 sacks one of those years, he's gone. Hopefully in a trade for picks.

True. When Romo escaped a Watt sack in Dallas I was just as upset.

Over the past decade, an average of <2 guys per season have had 15 sacks. Is 12 tolerable?
