I said it then - I think the Astros heavily weighed the "But what if we don't make the playoffs scenario" - which, frankly, more teams should do.

You have to be realistic, in addition to urgent, smart, etc., etc. I think the Astros saw an uphill battle and it didn't deter them from dealing; it just made them more cautious. Frankly, the Rangers would have made the playoffs regardless, in large part because they somehow own more of the Astros than Jim Crane does.

As pissed as fans were at the deadline - if the Astros had made 2016-only deals and not made the playoffs - or immediately flamed out - those same fans would be raising holy hell.

FWIW, Lewis & Moreland are really mediocre players. Gomez wasn't on their team most of the year. Desmond hit .237/.283/.347 in the 2nd half. Beltran wasn't there most of the season and wasn't that great for them.

Their biggest question marks, IMO is health (always seems to be), will Andrus repeat his career year, and how much longer Adrian Beltre can deny father time. They will return 2 very good starters and what turned out to be a stellar bullpen.

It's called karma. Odor sucker punches Bautista earlier in the season and then Odor blows the double play on a critical play in the playoffs.

    The baseball Gods have spoken.

My God , you guys are so salty about the Rangers . People saying the Rangers "regressed" and looked like a .500 team . The Rangers two best pitchers had bad games , that's not a team wide regression . You can never tell what is going to happen in the playoffs that's why you sell out to improve your team when trying to make it . Darvish and Hamels could have just as easily has stellar outings and the Rangers could have gone up 2-0 . It didn't happen that way .

No one knows what we are gonna look like next year. Same goes for the Rangers . They've been much better than us for a while now , and the cyclical nature of the game dictates that we should get back to being better than they are sometime soon .

The head to head records sure look abnormal but the fact that it happened over multiple years indicates that it was more than just randomization . In other words , the probability of it all being just random is very low .

Amen to that. Only thing worse than Rangers fans are Cowboys fans.

It's too bad the Rangers have to have Ranger fans because their team would be likable. Adrian Beltre is awesome.

No team with Roughned Odor will ever be likable.

The local D/FW 105.3 The Fan sports DJ guys were totally ripping this deal this morning. They were arguing it would have been a good deal for $2 million but $10 million is a joke. They were saying if they did that deal...then why didn't they just bring back Derek Holland. They were also scared about the Astros having made three pretty good moves and are afraid the Astros are about to break out. It was pretty funny to listen to.

Cashner has more upside and may have been more willing to take a short-term deal. He's had 2 bad seasons, but his 2 prior years (2013/14) were both outstanding. Maybe it's like Gomez where they see something they can "fix" in him, whereas they don't see the same in Holland.

The show right now on 105.3; they are ok with it and think it's a reasonable deal saying he's better than Holland and they have trust in the Ranger's staff to fix him

Its not like they were going to stay pat for the whole off season. I just hope our moves (overall) outweigh theirs.

I'm thinking this matriculated to the major league level and helped caused their playoff failure:
