    Facts
    1. There was a bill on the table to fund the government and social programs such as CHIP and children’s Medicaid as well as our military.

    2. All but 4 republican senators voted yes to keep the government open and funded.

    3. All but 5 democratic senators voted to not fund the government and social programs such as CHIP and children’s Medicaid and our military.

    4. The reason the democratic senators voted no was because the bill did not include provisions for DACA, a program that benefits non-US citizens.

    5. Essential services including the military will remain open during the shut down.

    6. Social Security checks will continue to be mailed during the shutdown.

    7. The military will get paid through February 1st. After that they will not receive another check until after the government reopens.

    8. If soldiers or other public servants miss a pay-check but are legally required to work regardless, they will be reimbursed after the government re-opens.

    9. It requires a simple majority to pass a bill in the senate unless a filabuster is announced. Once a filabuster is announced it requires 60 votes to pass a bill.

    10. The democrats called for a filabuster last night which meant the bill needed 60 votes to keep the government open.

    Commentary
The Democrats clearly put the health and welfare of non-US citizens above the health and welfare of US citizens. It is boarderline treason IMO, when a US senator puts the wants and desires of non-US citizens above the needs of the people they were elected to represent.

Yawn... you missed one important fact... that there was a compromise bill agreed upon that addressed Democrat's DACA concerns and republican's borderline (note correct spelling) security. Unfortunately, the president, driven by the extremists on the right (eg Miller, Cotton) and Fox & Friends scuttled that bi-partisan solution and as a result, #trumpshutdown.

An equally valid Commentary would be that Republicans put denying protections for DACA recipients above the health and welfare of US citizens.

If you want to say president Trump is a jack ass you’ll get no argument from me. But to say there was an agreement is not true.

Chuck Schumer said last night, in his address to the senate, that he had a good meeting with president Trump and thought they were close when he walked out of his office. Close does not equal an agreement.

Any deal needs to placate the crazies in the House.

Except the bill being voted on did not include provisions for DACA. The Republicans voted to fund the military and CHIP. The Democrats voted not to fund the military and CHIP because DACA (which doesn’t expire until March) was not part of the bill. This one is clearly on the Democrats for putting the health and Welfare of non US citizens above the Health and Welfare of US citizens.

I find the very coordinated "blame the Dems" campaign to be interesting. It feels a little like watching a late night commercial for Shamwow or The Shakeweight.

Either Republicans assume they'll get the blame, or they actually are to blame and coordinated this as a chance to claw back losses from the Dems.

Either way, when someone tries this hard to sell me something, my natural reaction is that the product they are selling is s**t - it can't sell itself. Trying this hard isn't a good look. Though I guess it must on others, or people wouldn't keep doing it.

A more accurate statement on my part would be they put denying protections for DACA recipients above the welfare of US citizens, which I subsequently edited my post to say. If they had not done so, they’d have worked with Dems to include those protections has well.

Basically, you can look at this from both sides. These people are paid to be advocates, but they’re also paid to ensure the government functions and to find compromises everyone can accept. In my mind, both sides have failed.

If the people that elected them wanted daca then they should do what their constituents want.

When someone in the GARM blames a losing streak exclusively on the 8th man in the rotation, how do we typically react to that poster?

    #FakePoll

80% do not want a government shutdown
    20% want a government shutdown
18% of that 20% want a government shutdown because Trump said he wanted one last year

And he and everyone should blame the GOP leadership for being too scared to do their job. Bring the bipartisan agreement up for a vote, as they said they would do for months, until Trump went #MyPreciousWallorNothing
