Hi guys, I wrote a script to gather advanced stats and draft data from 2007-15. Did an analysis on the expected production each draft pick brings, then compared it to average salary to get a relative value. Hope you enjoy the read! http://www.ballandone.com/2016/06/14/expected-return-draft-position/
Great write up! Hope people check it out. Makes sense intuitively that the number 1 overall pick, late first, and early second would be good value picks. Thanks for sharing.
What is up with the second pick in drafts anyway? I've definitely noticed that pattern of drop-offs at the second pick. Maybe teams are more inclined to swing for the fences at number 2 than at other spots, because of the desperation of feeling "so close yet so far" from the first pick and wanting a superstar. Perhaps teams over-analyze at the 2 spot and make poorer decisions...
