[News] Lin Has Fun with Kids in Hualien
    Source: TSNA Professional

This news report is too cute that I’ve got to translate it. >////<

    ———

Lin has been devoted to charity. After his 4-day basketball camp ended, today he joined 200 kids in a Hualien elementary school, played games with them like the big brother next door and enjoyed his time there.

“Sharks & Seaweed is my favorite field game.” Said Lin. The “shark” moves around the court and tries to tag people, once someone gets tagged they must freeze where they are and become “seaweed”. Lin was good at following the rule, except that he got caught once and frozen as “seaweed”, yet he still had a great time.

Another game played is Rock-paper-scissors. Once someone wins or loses they become different animals including human, chicken, zombie and kangaroo; one who wins the next round becomes the winner. Lin also enjoyed the game, he said he played it before but he picked the animals at random.

In the afternoon Lin had a talk with 50 kids at a local church. Most of the kids have an underprevileged background, some of them have mothers as foreign brides, others come from single-parent families, the other kids are from an orphanage.

Lin encouraged kids not to give in to adversity, but words from these naive kids became the highlight of the talk. They asked Lin all kinds of funny questions, yet he answered every one of them.

A little girl asked if he has a girlfriend. Without answering the question, Lin replied in Chinese: “You’re too young to have a relationship.” Another boy asked, “Do you have loose bowels?” Kids bursted into laughter. At first Lin didn’t know what the Taiwanese phrase means, but laughed after asking people next to him and said “Yeah, when I eat something wrong.”

One of the kids clearly follows NBA, as his first question was, “Are you in a new team now?” Someone asked if playing basketball makes one taller, Lin thought for a moment and replied in Chinese: “You’ll grow taller if you get enough sleep.” The last question was, “Do you have leg hair?” Again, Lin didn’t understand the phrase, but laughed after he did.

Lin then made cake with the kids. Those on his team could literally do anything to him: poking, tickling, hitting, squeezing and touching, little girls were overwhelmed with joy. After baking the cake, each team had to name their final product. Considering most of his teammates were girls, Lin asked whether they should name the cake “Barbie”, but no one liked his idea; little girls kept yelling “Rockets! Rockets!” They wanted to name their cake “Rocket”.

“I really enjoyed being here. The scenery in Hualein is so beautiful, mountains, fields, the sea, and the skies.” said Lin. He also brought basketballs and water bottles as gifts to the kids.

Lin’s family also participated in the event. His mother took care of kids who got hurt from running, his brother and sister-in-law chatted with those who didn’t want to play games; both Lin’s parents made the cake together, then the event ended with group prayers.

I like the "Sharks and Seaweed" game idea. I'm going to use this game the next time I teach a elementary or intermediate P.E. class.

Nice story but not threat worthy! You couldve posted under other Lin's in China or Taiwan threads.

Mod really needs to merge this one and others into "All Jeremy Lin Offseason Related."

Are you saying people in Asia don't welcome black children at Jeremy Lin events?

there are some brown (asian+black) kids there.

when the text said "some of them have mothers as foreign brides, others come from single-parent families"

is when the mother is single and the father is a foreign (tourist , soldier...)

I doubt it. Many of those kids are a result of Taiwanese men and foreign brides. If you look up Taiwan and foreign bride, you'll see that a lot of Taiwanese men are marrying women from poor Asian countries.
