3 Billboards will probably clean the house. Amazing film. Some parts did seem highly rushed but overall, great film.
At what point is something “black” not “token” but “deserving”? It’s amazing that we have a majority population angry that there are “token” nominations of deserving movies. There are very few platforms for social injustices to get noticed and Hollywood is as good as any. And good for IT to actually carry that weight. Unlike Corporate America it tackles its injustices head on and out on the open. Another would be kneeling on a football field. It’s funny seeing folks triggered by it.
That happens when the nomination has nothing to do with race and everything to do with merit. Or to put it another way, if the thing would have still been nominated if it weren't (fill in whatever group you want to pander to), then it is not "token", it's "deserving". For example, there's 0 chance "Get Out" would be nominated for best picture if it wasn't checking certain boxes. Horror films simply don't get nominated for best picture. The nominations that movie received was a direct result of When people demand tokenism, you get tokenism. It's just how it works. I wouldn't be surprised to see Black Panther get a ton of undeserved Oscar nominations next year for the same reason. That said, it's just the Oscars, who really cares?
Literally most of the movies sucked, I can't imagine awarding anything nominated and I've watched all but call me by your name and I don't think I missed much
hmmm....I'm literally confused what "literally most" means versus just saying "most." I take it: "Literally most" > most like "most" means 7 out of the 9 nominees sucked, but "literally most" mean 8 out of 9. So, how does "literally all" differ from "all". I guess "all" mean maybe 8 out of 9....since "literally all" means all 9. That means, "all" = "literally most" don't mind me, I'm figuratively bored to tears waiting for my sausages to finish cooking.
I've seen most of the nominees for every category now. Two clear standouts imo: Three Billboards and Ladybird. Those two should sweep most of the awards. Pretty solid year imo, definitely better than last. The only best picture nominee that was underserving to me was Dunkirk
Kobe with the Oscar ... holy smokes for Writing Best Animated Short inb4 Bobbythegreat says he didn't win on merit, because he's black.
Don't be that guy, at least pretend to be better than that. As to if he won it based on merit or not....I wouldn't know, I had no idea he wrote an animated film and I certainly haven't seen it.
Now we are all going to rewatch the Musecage. It probably went over all our heads, I guess. lulz go to Dish thread for the YT links to Musecage
I was just thinking about that ridiculousness.. I remember fairy tales and muppets.. Kobe is just too smart for us pleebs.
I think some might think the stars interacting with the normies is corny, but I think it's cool to see the reactions.
