The Rockets could've caved and given him everything he wanted. He would still find something to feel victimized about because he was trying to be the face of a "pro athletes with mental health issues" movement. The flip side are the players that have been previously mentioned: Love, DeRozan...heck, Zack Greinke revealed a few years ago that he deals with anxiety, yet he still goes out and pitches every 5th day. If standing alone on a pitcher's mound in front of 35K people isn't enough to give you anxiety, I don't know what would. Yet, he perseveres and has dominated at times in MLB. Royce had a choice. He could've really tried to make it work but wanted the world to cater to his feelings. The real world don't work like that.
The Rockets probably made mistakes. Royce probably made mistakes. The league probably made mistakes. At the end of the day, the only person responsible for Royce is Royce.
He turned his RV into a "bang bus" and was too busy picking up groupies to play basketball. He reportedly got three women pregnant during his stint with the Rockets and RGV. He also had a domestic abuse charge for bashing his "girlfriend's" head into a mirror. That doesn't even get into him getting fat and now claims he was okay with flying a plane? Whatever you say Royce.
Was he a nice guy when he fathered children with 5 different women and didn't pay child support? Was he a nice guy when he threw his girlfriend head first into a mirror?
@Nook with the scoop! Some of this has to be because of his mental issues, right? I know people hate when "mental Issues" becomes a catch all for all bad behavior.
McHale was friends with Royce's college coach. They told McHale Royce was a good teammate and a talented player with some personal mental issues. So McHale told Morey he really wanted him to draft him. Morey loved McHale so he did it.
I don’t know anything about these allegations you are bringing up. A quick google search yields hits in sites like TMZ, which I don’t read. As for throwing his girlfriend through a mirror, if it happened I am surprised he wasn’t convicted of assault.
So you would rather be blissfully ignorant and believe he is a good guy? He threw her into a glass mirror, not through the mirror. Why are you surprised? People get away with assault all the time.
I would rather not think about him any more than I need to. Hating on a guy I hardly know based on stories passed around online is just not worth it to me. All I can say is he seemed like a decent, friendly, normal guy in my brief interaction with him, which is admittedly not much to go on. And whatever one’s personal opinion is of him and his character, I think he raised important issues for a team and league that wasn’t ready to address them in the right way. It looks like that may start to change. We will see.
