Tuesday night, 313th District Court Judge Glenn Devlin lost his bid for re-election, along with all of his Republican colleagues in the midterm judicial sweep by Democrats.

Wednesday morning, he took the bench for detention hearings and asked juvenile defendants something very unusual, says public defender Steve Halpert.

"'If I release you, will you go out and murder anybody?' And so, if the juvenile said 'No,' they were released," said Halpert who was requesting release for his client. "Judge Devlin would never normally ask that question of a juvenile. This was unusual."

A Chronicle investigation found that Devlin and another judge were responsible for more than one-fifth of children sent to the state’s juvenile prisons last year.

Another evidence to prove republicans are more of a threat to the society when they can’t deal with their inner hatred and will do **** dramatically.

Doesn't sound like he has the right demeanor to be a judge. Good way to make nobody miss him at all.

It is justice denied for some victims. And there may be some crimes committed by the released during the time they would have otherwise been in the state's custody. But beyond that window, does anyone expect this leniency will result in more crime down the road? Because I don't think it would. Its a miscarriage in terms of justice and of incapacitation of crime, but not of deterrence imo.

The Chronicle has become the enemy of objectivity and context.

    https://abc13.com/officials-say-20000-gang-members-live-in-houston/4146137/

Gang violence is a growing concern among Houston neighborhoods and the law enforcement agencies which patrol them.

    ...

Sadly, 10 children have been killed because of gang violence in Houston in the last year.

The Houston area alone has at least 20,000 documented gang members, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tells ABC13.

Well, it sucks that he could have taken the same action and earned an immense amount of social, professional and political capital; honestly with the minimal planning and discipline need to craft a flowery statement or press response this is the kind of thing you get podcast segments and book deals out of. Instead a good portion of the local pro-bono and child advocacy bar is in the awkward position of rightly brow-beating a southern judge for violently yanking black kids out of the criminal justice system.

Except you'll notice that everybody in that story but the court itself, who kind of have skin in the game, indicates that they did exactly that.

Anything that the ACLU, the DA, and public defenders all agree happened almost has to be true by default. And nobody from the court is even willing to put their name on the declaration that it didnt happen...

Also love the bit that the judge didn't bother to even show up for work the next day....

Did you actually read the story, or just see the headline and post?

Donald Trump has become the soul of the right. They are behaving more and more like him as a collective.

I read the release as well. I see your point and if more facts emerge I will eat crow.
