SEC chairman Mike Motheral calls this an isolated incident. Also said this will be the last meeting on the case.

Motheral: "We're going to make some decisions today." Jay players are not here.

"The one thing that is definite in this whole scenario is we have two young kids that made a mistake." -- Motheral

Motheral said we're not here for the names of the kids or their penalties. Michael Moreno, Victor Rojas serving 75 days @ alt. school.

NISD superintendent Brian Woods and AD Stan Laing take the stand to speak in lieu of their students.

"As bad as we feel about this incident, we feel like some good things are going to come out of this." -- Laing

@JimVertuno: NISD officials says players were disciplined just as they would have if they had assaulted a school employee #UIL

That was quick. Laing and Woods are off the stand. Motheral said Moreno and Rojas aren't playing fball, but talks about a bigger penalty.

Motheral said Rojas and Moreno do not need to participate in athletics the rest of the school year.

Question turns to Rojas, who is a sophomore. Motheral also suggested Rojas appear before the SEC before he becomes active.

SEC member James Colbert said the event was caused by malicious intent. Colbert agrees unequivocally with Motheral.

@Rickyprep: Colbert: "teachable moment" for all involved. #centexpreps

UIL exec. director Charles Breithaupt said the UIL is about second chances, notes the players' decisions to not appear before the UIL twice.

Motheral calls for a motion. Garza said both students are suspended for the rest of the school year. Rojas suspended indefinitely.

Jay senior Michael Moreno and Victor Rojas are suspended for the rest of the year. Rojas suspended until he meets with SEC.

Mack Breed takes the stand with his attorney.

Mack Breed said he never told the Jay players to take out the officials.

Breed said a player told him that Watts called him the N-word. Breed went ahead and said the word.

Breed is reading a prepared statement to the UIL. Breed said he told himself "this MF needs to pay."

Breed said he loves Rojas and Moreno like they're his own kids. Would take a bullet for them.

Breed said he doesn't know what me meant by saying Watts needs to pay. He said he didn't want to resign.

Breed said he was told he would be fired if he didn't resign.

Breed tells James Colbert he uses that kind of language regularly and no coaches say anything to him.

Colbert is asking why the kids would do what they did if they weren't directed.

Breed said he doesn't know why Moreno and Rojas hit Watts. "It could have been anybody."

Breed said the players were not near him when he said that comment. SEC member Denson asks why he felt remorse afterward then.

Breed said the statement came on the ejection of Jay senior Moses Reynolds.

Garza said there's nothing wrong with being intense. He says Breed needs to be more positive with his intensity toward children.

Garza said Breed's language on the sideline should not be tolerated on the sideline and they should be in control.

"It's just a game. It's what this game teaches us about life is important." - Gil Garza

Breed said that a player told him that Watts called him the N-word.

Breed said his cussing was not directed at anybody.

Colbert grills Breed about cussing at referees. Breed said he did not direct curse words at officials.

Garza asks Breed why he's here. Breed: "Just to clear my name. I love coaching in the state of Texas."

Breed said he wants to coach again in UIL sports. Denson asks Breed if he's a good role model.

Breed is getting emotional as he speaks about his father. "I hate that I didn't take his advice."

Breed said people think low of Jay because of the people there and its location. Breed went back to Jay to prove everybody wrong.

Breed returns to his seat. Attorney looks at him and said "Good job." Briethaupt thanks Breed for coming.

Breithaupt said he thinks Breed can coach again.

Colbert notes Rojas and Moreno's refusal to appear before the committee. Colbert said Breed's appearance is "refreshing."

Colbert: "I appreciate you having responsibility for your actions." Also said Breed's comments add to a powder-keg.

Colbert also said Breed could coach again in Texas.

@Rickyprep: Colbert, from Houston: said it's a teachable moment for Breed. Hopes Breed coaches again. #centexpreps

"I hope that you have learned a valuable lesson, because if you haven't then this has been a waste of time." -- Gil Garza to Mack Breed

Motheral said a suspension is likely in order for Breed. Referenced the max penalty as 3 years. "You have some consequences coming to you."

Colbert hopes Breed is reemployed. Talks about a one-year suspension for Breed.

Committee member Johanna Denson talks about a suspension up until Sept. 4.

Motheral offers Northside ISD a chance to speak. Woods and Laing come back to the stand.

Woods confirms Breed was going to get axed one way or another, either with a resignation or a firing.

Breithaupt said the stigma attached to Breed will be heavier than any punishment from the UIL.

Colbert motions for a suspension and a two-year probation. Denson seconds.

Former Jay assistant Mack Breed has been suspended for the rest of the 15-16 school year and issued a two-year probation.

Briethaupt acknowledges that some may think this is a light sentence. Then he went off on a tangent.

Robert Watts said the accusations of racial slurs are "100 percent not true."

Watts: "I don't know why they would make up a story like that, but it's unfortunate.:

Watts said he's officiated over 450 games in the state of Texas, not had any issues at all.

Watts said he's "not well" following the attack. Didn't elaborate.

James Colbert asking about the events surrounding the ejection of Moses Reynolds, who was thrown out prior to the attack.

Watts said that was Reynolds' 2nd unsportsmanlike penalty so he was ejected. Was the first player on the Marble Falls player he fought with.

Watts said Reynolds threw the football at him pretty hard. Watts told him if he did that again he'd throw him out of the game.

The allegations are that Watts called Reynolds the n-word.

Watts said he never heard any racial comments throughout the night between Jay and Marble Falls players.

Watts said he never told a Jay player to "Speak English." Said he never heard a player speak Spanish that night.

Watts is flanked by one of his attorneys, Jay Downs, and TASO exec Mike Fitch.

Watts said the first time he heard allegations of a racial slur was after he was hit.

Watts: "I don't know if there's anything we )officials) could have done differently."

Watts' attorney, Jay Downs, speaking now. Downs said Breed's testimony signals to a culture problem at Jay.

Downs and Watts are dismissed. Watts looks at the ground as he walks past Breed.

TASO executive director Mike Fitch now speaks along with the officials organization's private investigator, Bob Peden.

If I heard this right, Fitch doesn't have a hard copy of the final investigation but it is complete.

Fitch said they haven't been able to uncover any evidence of racial slurs made by Watts to Jay players.

TASO said on Sept. 24 that a final investigation was going to be completed 10 days from that date.

Fitch also mentions that Watts' friend from sixth grade is African-American as he discuss racial allegations.

TASO interviewed Jay playesr Moses Reynolds and Trent Hobdy in their investigation, per Fitch. Both allege racial slurs.

TASO investigation said the interviews from Reynolds and Hobdy have inconsistencies based on what exactly was said.

Fitch said video shows Marble Falls players were around Watts when the allegations were said and no Falls players heard it.

TASO recommends no action be taken against Robert Watts by its board of directors.

TASO investigator said he reached out to the attorney of the Jay players for interviews, did not hear back.

@JimVertuno: Garza: no one heard racial slur "except 2 John Jay football players". Seems satisfied it didn't happen #UIL

Motheral said he still doesn't have a final report from TASO, which said it would have one on Oct. 4.

UIL has issued TASO to issue its completed investigation before the UIL's own sports officials' committee.

Jay coach Gary Gutierrez takes the stand alone. Last time he was joined by Jay principal Robert Harris.

UIL chair Mike Motheral asking Gutierrez about the language Mack Breed used on the sideline.

Motheral asks Gutierrez if he took control of the situation like he needed to on Sept. 4.

"Looking at the man in the mirror, I'm the head coach and obviously I would do some things differently." - Gutierrez

Gutierrez said he doesn't know if he had some timeouts left. He said in hindsight he would go back and use them.

UIL committee James Colbert said the Jay players didn't think there was something wrong with what they did, citing culture.

Colbert to Gutierrez: "Somewhere, something went wrong."

At the last meeting, the UIL committee said probation could be possible for Gutierrez.

@JimVertuno: Colbert tells coach: you are responsible for culture and nuances. You don't let things slide. #UIL

Colbert: "You had four athletes ejected from a game. That's ridiculous."

Gil Garza asks if a Jay player has been ejected since the Sept. 4 game. Gutierrez said no.

Garza said from Day One he's seen a lack of leadership on Jay's sideline. Garza bothered that one of the players who hit Watts stayed in.

Garza: "It's unacceptable, and it shouldn't happen. It's hard to defend."

@JimVertuno: Motheral to coach: There needs to be consequences for you, but not for your team #UIL

Motheral recommends a public reprimand and probation.

UIL committee reprimands Jay coach Gary Gutierrez and places him on two years of probation.

Motheral wishes Gutierrez well on the rest of the season, said "Let's get this behind us."

Northside ISD superintendent Brian Woods declined to comment, said district will issue statement today.

Mack Breed shook hands with Robert Watts as they walked out. Breed seemed to apologize. Watts said "Thank you."

Also noteworthy: Spring ISD suspended two coaches a game each for the Westfield-Spring brawl. Gary Gutierrez only issued probation by UIL.[/rQUOTEr]
