Stanley, 27, was a restricted free agent, meaning the Texans could have matched any offer he might have received from another team during the restricted free agency signing period. The Seattle Seahawks brought him to town for a visit earlier during the offseason, but never made an offer. On Monday, Stanley signed for one-year, $605,000, which the Texans tendered at the beginning of the period. Because the Texans were so inept offensively during their inaugural season, Stanley was a busy man in 2002. He led the league with a NFL record-tying 114 punts, including 36 inside the opponent's 20-yard line, also tops in the league. Swift has started six games during his four-year career, catching 22 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. The addition gives the Texans another body at the tight end position at which they have just three players during the ongoing coaching sessions, which resumed Monday at Reliant Park. Also, first-round draft pick Andre Johnson informed the Texans that Jeff Moorad no longer is his agent. Johnson's uncle/adviser Andre Melton said he and his nephew simply decided they wanted to choose other representation, which they intend to do after the required five-day grace period.
Good move. It seemed like all of his punts ended up inside the 20. Good for a "field position" coach like Capers. He kept us in a lot of games last year.
