    5yr, $16m - http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1345854.html

The Houston Texas added offensive guard Steve McKinney to their roster Tuesday, continuing their early emphasis on constructing a solid offensive line for anticipated first-round quarterback David Carr.

McKinney, who played the first four seasons of his careers in Indianapolis, has reached agreement on a five-year contract worth about $16 million.

he started from day 1 as a rookie and has missed just two games in three years. and while it's been easily overlooked, the colts' OL has been very, very good the past few years. few sacks, two rushing titles...

he can hold his own, a terrific addition. plus, we steal a starting OL from a division rival and get a native texan who wanted to play in houston, not too shabby. he's pricey, but it's a good deal all the way around.

Maybe we can trade Young and have a whole o-line of McKinneys
    (w/ a Boselli capper)

Well It appears the Texans are going the way of the 99 Browns rather then the 96 Jaguars, Just pray you find someone who can run the ball.

    :(

For a million more in base salary, we could have had Kreutz. However, I welcome McKinney to the organization (don't you wish everyone could go home?). Like Ric said, "he can hold his own..."

    Next up: linebacker?

huh??? not sure what you mean here. the browns bought over priced, aging players in the free agent market. we captured our top players in the expansion draft, more like J-Ville. right??? is my memory fuzzy ???

    Kreutz is a C, not a G.

But both help out the O-line. O-line takes time to build usually.

Didn't the Oilers use 3 first rders in consectuctive years in the early eighties to build line?

Anybody ever wonder how many yards Earl Campbell would have racked up running behind Munchak, Matthews, and Steinkuhler?

What I mean is the Texans appear to be going to way of drafting an offense like the Browns (Couch, Johnson) instead of going the way of building the offense through FA. Perhaps Carr will turn into a good NFL QB but no one can tell until the season starts.

James Allen or a running back in the 2nd round (Duckett) could break the 1k barrier with this line

How about Portis from Miami. He will probably fall to the 2nd round. Although undersized, he seems pretty tough and is a really good RB.

    Ric,

What do you know about Michael Pittman from the Arizona Cardinals? How does he compare with James Allen? I see that he's about 2 inches taller & they both have about the same average per carry. Pittman is 5 months younger than Allen. What kind of speed do they have & what's their health history comparisons? So far, no one has publicly announced having a scheduled visit set up with Pittman. Would Pittman come cheaper than Allen?
