The Houston Texans signed second-year wide receiver Jermaine Lewis on Wednesday. Lewis, who shares his name with the veteran kick returner who played for Houston in 2002, was an undrafted rookie out of Western Michigan last year who failed to make it through the Detroit Lions' training camp. Pretty funny, at first I thought it was the old one.
I think we should go after a wideout on the market and just move Cory Bradford to kickoff and punt returner. He has the speed to break one and has decent hands.
I've always wondered about this as well. IIRC, most of Bradford's catches were of the "big play" variety, mostly because he could break into the open field with a burst of speed. This should be sufficient for special teams duties as long as he can field the ball. It mgiht feel like a demotion, but playing him as the 3rd WR and on special teams could prove fruitful. At least experiment with it in training camp/presason. Who knows, he might be better than Dante Hall....
Ref, Is that under the assumption that the second gets cut after two-a-days? From what I remember, J-Lew I was counter-productive (think whiff in the Dallas game) I don't know if Bradford is as shifty as you would want your KR/PR to be. Isn't he just a vertical guy? I remember we used to make fun of him because all he could run were posts.
Heh, no offense taken. I was just being a little tongue in cheek here, but I don't see how it would hurt to give it a try.
Yeah he might be pretty good at it if Capers gives him a shot. The only positive about JJ is that he didn't fumble not one time during the season.
It irritated me to no end to see JJ scamper all around the place when there were a few holes that he could manage to squeeze through and find some daylight. He ran backwards a lot. He seemed to be afraid of getting hit (although after that vicious hit he took against the Jags, I wouldn't blame him). He was a good surprise in training camp, but he seemed to have lost something when the real season started.
