Only team to have a 100% retention rate since 2008.

Not only that, but every player listed below is on the active roster as a starter. Think about that for a second: when Deshaun Watson makes his inevitable start, the Texans will have 10 consecutive first-round picks starting at the same time. That's a decade's worth of first-round picks in the starting lineup. Honestly, I never thought this was possible with modern free agency and hard salary cap in the NFL today.

    2008: Duane Brown
    2009: Brian Cushing
    2010: Kareem Jackson
    2011: J.J. Watt
    2012: Whitney Mercilus
    2013: DeAndre Hopkins
    2014: Jadeveon Clowney
    2015: Kevin Johnson
    2016: Will Fuller

That's of course if he ever starts and if it happens before Brian Cushing is off the team. They already have Cushing's replacement on the team so this could easily be his last season here. In a perfect world Watson doesn't play at all this season because he's nowhere near ready to.

That said, your point stands and it's something I cited earlier when I was trying to talk myself into Watson. The Texans' first round success speaks for itself and buys them the benefit of the doubt.

Don't look up the 2007 draft. 13 Pro Bowlers taken in the 1st round after the Texas drafted Amobi Okoye.

Too many people take the first round for granted. What is the league-average success rate in round 1? Did I see 14% recently?... Whatever the number is, the Texans' decade-long streak of not just hitting their first round picks, but straight-up nailing them are too often taken for granted - the first round is "easy." No round in the draft is "easy."

JJ Watt is going to Canton; Duane Brown may go down as one of the franchise's five-best players; Mercilus, Hopkins & Clowney have All-Pro ceilings.

I would put that stretch up against any other team's and I would guess the Texans come out on top 9 out of 10 times.

Something's gotta give. Rick Smith's knack for hitting on 1st round picks or Rick Smith's track record of poor QB evaluations.

He missed on Brock Osweiler. Passed on Derek Carr. I think 10 consecutive hits in first round pretty much obliterates two misfires, one of which they've already begun rectifying.

Yea... Xavier Su'a-Filo hasn't really worked out. It actually wasn't a very good draft aside from Clowney. I'm not sure Carr would have been a very good matchup between both parties. I know that's not a popular opinion but it's just hard for the Texans to revisit the Carrs after David.

    ,,,we hope.

His first round hits are something that can't be overlooked, though. That's a pretty amazing list in today's NFL.

One might contend that this is possible because he never picked a QB, which is a high bust-rate position? I have no data to back this up. Take that for (lack of) data.

Bob McNair passed on Carr, not Rick Smith.

They have done a great job with their first round picks. Significantly better than the average team.

Those picks all have one thing in common:

    We didn't trade them away
