Gaine had to have banged Cals wife for it to have "deteriorate" that fast.

That's all obvious and nothing new. Did Cal even talk to him? All he had to say was let's make it a 3 year plan...

Bill O'Brien was supposedly already close to Easterby before the Texans hired him.

IF you believe 610 radio, Cal McNair has demanded that the GM, HC and Easterby have clearly defined roles and when there is a conflict between what the coach wants and what the GM wants; Easterby breaks the tie.

How that actually plays out? I don't know; but if you believe the report, Cal has at a minimum noticed that there is too much overlap between GM and coach.

This...... and it reminds me of something Daryl Morey said in the last year or so. Basically that he has learned that there are some special coaches (I'm sure it holds true for executives) and that when those special coaches are available, you have to get them... timing at times be damned. He discussed how the traditional model (that the Rockets also have used) is that you fire your coach and then look at who isn't a HC and hire the best candidate....... but almost never does that align with when you have a HC opening. He discussed Carlisle and Stevens as examples of guys that did not have a robust market simply because teams were not willing to get rid of an existing coach.

My point is that I suppose you could argue, that the Texans screwed up hiring Gaine as fast as they did IF they really did not see him as the top choice. I do believe that the Texans wanted Gaine to do O'Brien's bidding since day 1......... however, if they now look out as think someone out there is available, then you make the move.

Bill O'Brien on Cal McNair, "he's a humble person, very clear on his expectations and what he needs … he's not afraid of making tough decision. … He wants to win."

Bill O'Brien starts off his minicamp presser addressing the GM situation. Says #Texans owner Cal McNair did a thorough evaluation of the football operation that included him. McNair has been clear on his expectations moving forward.

It's feel inflated, sure... my counter is, I feel better about BOB's stranglehold on the organization based on his W/L record than I would if we swapped him out for Jay Gruden, if that makes sense. I don't think he deserves a plaque - but at least BOB's track record... well, it's isn't Gruden's track record. That would be sooooooo much more problematic. He *has* won. Not enough. But he's also not Hue Jackson.

What interests me about Caserio is that he's been there since 2001 in a variety of different roles. Fully agree with you on the Brady/Belicheck dynamic - but this guy has seen it from every conceivable angle. That's encouraging. And then... 19 years in which they were Super Bowl contenders.... pretty much for 16 of those..... He's going to have an *incredibly* high standard.

Eh... I recognize we've entered a new phase of journalism that is essentially unbound by any sense of integrity. But if McClain merely had hearsay - nothing directly confirmed from BOB and/or Gaine - he likely doesn't run with it. He idly speculates on unsubstantiated claims and he loses what limited access he already has over there.

Sounds like he's the one who should go!

    Did BOB really say that?...

I don't buy the 'Texans never spend' bullshit. First of all, your list ignores the resigning of their own free agents, which, at one point, included the largest contracts for a wide receiver and defensive player. So, you know...

And... if you want to complain that they haven't spent money *well* - have at it as that is just a tick shy of being universally true. But that does not cancel out, you know: spending. They've spent money. They're not the Cincinnati Bengals. Signing Brock Osweiler was a terrible decision. But they *did* spend money.

Cheap is not, nor has it ever been an issue. Smart has. But not cheap. Eating Brian Gaine's contract is NOT cheap. Smart?......
