So we sit here on the eve of free agency and it is just crazy how everything has flipped over the last few years. I once considered Kevin Martin a savior and my heart was crushed as we ended up with the middling 14th pick over and over.

It all changed for me as my wife and I sat on a couch here in Alabama. We had recently moved from Texas and we were eating ribeye. My wife was glancing at her phone and asked.... "Who is James Harden? Is that the guy with the beard?" I grunted yes as I was eating my steak and she said "Well we just traded for him"

I assumed that it was a hoax or a rumor. But after I got on clutchfans I saw that CH had posted it and that it was from Woj. I just couldn't believe it.

Same thing last summer with Howard. I felt very optimistic but I couldn't fathom us acquiring D12. It seemed impossible to have another stroke of luck. I was on vacation and was just repeatedly refreshing and refreshing. When I saw the Amick article I was sitting in the very same spot in my couch.

I think that we can't get too high or too low over the next week as fans. I don't doubt Morey. I also know that luck comes and goes. I will remain on my couch in essentially the same spot trying to work up some juju over the next few days. If we strikeout, we still have an extremely bright future. I know that I probably obsess a bit too much but I will never forget those acquisitions. Tell your story...

For Harden, I was at a Halloween party dressed up as Jackie Moon from Semi-Pro. It was hosted by my buddy who is from Dallas and is a Mavs fan. I was yelling at him (Mavs were also rumored have gone after Harden if you recall), "WE GOT HARDEN" the entire night.

For Howard, I was at Top Golf playing terribly because I was too pre-occupied and was just reading updates on that mega-thread on Clutchfans and also because I'm terrible at golf.

Acquiring Harden was the most excited I had been over a roster move since we acquired Barkley. I went to school with James and we lived in the same dorms. I never was close with him or anything (I would see him out at parties and I had a few conversations) but he always seemed like a reserved nice dude (who was very interested in laying the pipe as J.R. Smith so eloquently stated).

I followed him in the NBA where I expected him to be a decent player but not the player he became today but as I saw him progress every season, I began to buy into the hype. This was a guy who was the biggest ASU recruit ever, a guy who never led the Devils to much but always did it with a relaxed vibe that you had to love his game. He was my first player in the NBA since Jordan that I was a huge fan of despite not being on the Rockets. When the Rockets got him, it made it that much easier to root for him.

I think that he will continue to advance as a player, I think he can be the best offensive player in the game (obviously not scorer, but he can really do it all) if he continues to develop. I think his defense will come this year, hopefully with a defensive specialist in his ear.

I found out about him through my girlfriend which is amazing because I follow everything so closely and yet she was the one who saw it on the ticker on ESPN. I immediately took off my Halloween custome and put on my harden ASU jersey and went out for the night.

harden - was at crib chillen, saw we let go of Martin, lamb "who I was excited about", and the 1st rounders... Thought it was a lot to go out, but after his first game in Detroit watching it at TC on the BIG SCREEN premier to season ticket holders on Halloween I was like DAM$nnnnnnnn good trade he's balling.

HOWARD - was on vacation in sandiego with my GF, we were at the ZOO at the time when the ESPN update came through.

I went to H&H for the first time in the 6th grade. I still remember it like it was yesterday. My parents were divorced and I had begged by dad to send the money to buy me a saxophone. He did and my mom took me to H&H to pick out any sax I wanted. I ended up getting a cheap one because she wanted me to prove I'd stick with it.

I ended up with a much nicer one years later, but that was always my favorite.

I was just goofing around at home and about to go to bed when I refreshed the forum and saw we traded for Harden. Nearly crapped my pants at that one. I couldn't get to bed until like 3 in the morning.

Howard was grating because we all knew it was coming so I was constantly checking up on it.

For harden, I was Halloween event at discovery green called "scream at the green", when I got a text from a friend that we got harden. I couldn't believe it and immediately got on clutchfans.

For Howard, I was on clutchfans for like five days straight lol. I felt we had a good chance of landing him but I couldn't picture him being in a rockets uniform.

About 20 minutes before Dwight made his decision, I was sure he was signing with the warriors. If you recall, warriors were making trades to shed salary to sign a big free agent. And according to Cyberx, Dwight really seemed interested playing for gsw.

I felt like I got my hopes up for nothing and signed off clutchfans thinking I was a fool for thinking we even had a shot. I tune in to watch Espn and was SHOCKED when they said "Dwight to houston".

I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. I thought he was going to the warriors for sure. By far the greatest time I ever had in clutchfans was that day.

For Harden, I think we had had a Halloween party. We woke up hungover and my brother had checked ESPN or something and called me and was like "We got Harden!" I thought he was full of **** and still drunk but I came on here and BOOM. It was done.

For Howard, we were at work. I kept going back to him and asking him "What's happening? Is he coming? Back to LA? Golden State can **** off! He's a Rocket!!!"

I just got home from eating somewhere in san francisco, and i forget, i think a friend texted me, and then i checked clutchfans to see if it was legit... When k i found out it was real i flipped **** celebrating. I literally started running back and fourth and jumping yelling yes. I didn't see it coming what so ever because I had not checked clutchfans for a while i think. So it was a total pleasent surprise.

Howard was different, I was up for a week basically refreshing the Howard thread, having ups and downs as reporters saying we were favored and some saying lakers or warriors. Until that one usa today articlw was posted, i got off the computer, and started celebrating like a socce player who just scored a goal. Running in circles fist pumping and everything. Then i went outside, and tried to catch my breath as i told my uncle we got Howard. I then shut on KOTH on netflix and tuned on ESPN to hear everybody talk about it.

Harden, I remember I was at work that day. I was like "umm, cool we got James Harden from OKC". Then I remember the first game where he dropped 38? then 41 (I think)? I was like "WE GOT A STAR FINALLY IN HOUSTON!!"

Howard, I was at work again creeping on his Twitter. Till I saw him change his location from LA to Houston. I was like, ITS HAPPENING! RINGS FOR HOUSTON BABY! CLUTCH CITY 2.0

I was at the Montrose Halloween pub crawl sitting in Etro drinking a Stella when my brother called me and told me we got Harden. I remember screaming yes! And having to explain to some people why lol. I didn't get off twitter for an hour and my GF was pissed.

When we got Howard I was up early that Saturday refreshing twitter. I was a wreck when Gs started wheeling and dealing but I had faith in Doc Rocket that it was a done deal and when Amick posted that legendary tweet I screamed and grabbed a beer out of the fridge. I proceeded to jump into the pool in the back yard and listen to sports radio for the rest of the night.

For Harden I had been out all day at work and when I arrived I saw cfans.net frontpage and I was ECSTATIC. I believed in the guy from the moment we got him but even I wasn't sure he would be as awesome as he is.

For Howard I was glued on cfans for weeks reading all the rumors and just went crazy when it was official on the mega thread... before it melted into real weird disturbing stuff for a while there...

Harden- I was in Baton Rouge at a Buffalo Wild, near LSU campus. Was somewhat glad to have him, just thought we gave up too much and questioned his offensive game. That side of the ball isn't a problem in the regular season.

Howard- Was in Phoenix at a Buffalo Wild. Bunch of Laker fans in AZ, they were like good riddance, but I know they were mad.

Last year when we acquired dwight, the hours leading up to the Sam Amick story, I sat at my computer refreshing clutchfans over and over while watching ESPN. When I heard we signed him it was awesome. Along with being super excited, I start my 10 day summer vacation and was going to Vegas the following week. Great way to start summer!

For Harden I actually wasn't paying much attention to clutchfans at all because My interest in Lin and Asik was minimal. I actually got a text from a friend who's not even a basketball fan that we got Harden.

I was on the crapper when my friend texted me and mocked me that we gave up Martin and picks for Harden after that performance in the Finals.

Howard I was locked in my room clicking refresh until FINALLY Sam Amick reported it.

For harden I was just getting into my hotel room after my wedding reception and found out from a text and I started freaking out and had to double check clutchfans. My wife was like whose harden? Why are you so happy.

For howard it was like the poster above. Lots of refreshing clutchfans over and over and trying to study for board exams at the same time. I'm glad it didn't linger on too long. I think that evening I fired up 2k and played with howard and harden. Good times

For harden i was at my aunts party, and left early with a cousin of mine going for joy rides. Then my phone went tanana tanana. Espn alert and it was James Harden traded to Houston. We both screamed YESSSS.
Howard: i was in my room studying anticipating howard to sign or stay in LA. Then after i finnished a practice test looked at phone and 20 dwight howard alerts i read all of them and then watched espn all day
