    This from tomorrows Houston Chronicle.

"The spirit may have been willing, but Carlos Rogers' thumb was weak.

Rogers, who suffered a right thumb injury in a game at Sacramento Jan. 11, tried to play through considerable pain Tuesday night. After missing three games, Rogers played only three minutes against Portland, forcing one air ball before coming out.

On Wednesday, the Rockets announced the 6-11 forward will undergo surgery today to repair a torn tendon in his thumb and will miss three to six weeks. Rogers is averaging 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

With the league maximum of three players on injured reserve (Charles Barkley, Tony Massenburg and Kelvin Cato) the Rockets must wait until Cato is ready to return before they place Rogers on injured reserve. Cato, who has been out since Jan. 13 with a sprained right wrist, is eligible to return for Sunday's game against Miami.

"I saw Cato use his right hand to do some things today, so that's looking better," coach Rudy Tomjanovich said after Wednesday's practice.

    Just don't suit up."

At least he won't be out as long as first expected. Also, nice to see that Cato is progressing along nicely. I think another week and Cato should be back playing ball.

    Lottery? I don't think so.

why is Barkley even counted towards injured reserved? why do the hornets get a 2 million exception for Phills' death but we don't get one for Chuck's injury?
