Supposedly O'Brien had to be restrained from Brock...

From day one of the signing, there's been far more out there suggesting he wasn't the coach's top pick.

The rest of the stuff after that was spin.

Actually how many mistakes have the Texans made at qb in the Smith/BOB era? The only one available they missed on I can think of is Carr. Garappalo is still unknown and Bridewater is on life support.

LOL Houston fans are funny. If the QB plays well, you give credit to the coach. If he doesn't, it was just a bad QB. If the head coach of a national football league team of professional football players is getting in altercations with this players, it must be the players fault. I get it. You love your coach and you hate your GM. I hope you're right and our offensive guru coach can finally give us an offense and maybe take some anger management classes.

Honestly the franchise just isn't well ran. There is no clear roles for the front office and head coach.

The contracts given out by Smith haven't been good in many cases.

At the same time what has BOB done so great? I have seen nothing that leads me to believe BOB is good with quarterbacks or can build an offense. Numerous NFL people have commented on BOB have a huge ego and his arrogance. It is like Bill Polian said: "At some point he coaches so many quarterbacks that the blame rests on the coaching."

Seriously.... if you were a young QB, would you entrust your development to THIS guy?

I have yet to see them "miss"... until Brock.

And Brock fit every definition of "you have to swing for the fences, you have to take a shot, at some point you have to just get somebody!"

There's very little difference between missing on Brock and missing on a draft pick. Yes, there was more money given to him, but less years required before moving on.

Week 17 altercation was last straw

January 1. Texans at Titans. Backup-turned-starter Tom Savage took a hit on a quarterback sneak during the first play of the second quarter and was removed for a concussion evaluation. Starter-turned-backup Brock Osweiler entered the game.

Confusion emerged during the second quarter as to whether Savage had been cleared to return to action. At halftime, Savage got the news: He was being shut down for the day.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Savage became very upset, knocking things around in the locker room and otherwise making a ruckus about having his status jeopardized by a doctor’s decision to keep him from playing. At or about the same time, coach Bill O’Brien informed Osweiler that he’d be finishing the game.

Osweiler, per the source, reacted negatively, telling O’Brien in the visiting coach’s office at Nissan Stadium in Nashville that he’s only playing Osweiler because O’Brien needs him. [Editor’s note: That’s sort of how football depth charts work.] An argument ensued, voices were raised. At one point, it’s believed that Osweiler got up to walk away and O’Brien threw out an arm to stop him. That prompted Osweiler to act as if he were being “held hostage,” a claim that he would repeat (per the source) in the days after the game.

And that was that for Osweiler in Houston. Following that incident, the team was determined to find a way to move on from him.

Rumors of an incident of some sort had been percolating for weeks. Both O’Brien and Osweiler downplayed talk of a loud argument in the days after the game. Following the hot potato trade that sent Osweiler and a second-round pick to Cleveland, former NFL defensive back Bryant McFadden said in an appearance on 120 Sports that Osweiler and O’Brien had a “physical confrontation that got ugly.”

“It was physical,” McFadden said. “It was physical. The players and coaches had to restrain O’Brien and Brock.”

Both the Texans and Osweiler’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, declined to comment on McFadden’s claims. Based on the information PFT has obtained, it seems that the incident was mildly physical at worst.

Consider it objectively. Osweiler is six-seven, and he was wearing full pads. O’Brien is considerably shorter than that and, unlike the conventional game-day attire in baseball, was not wearing pads and a uniform.

Whatever did (or didn’t) happen between the two of them, Osweiler’s perceived overreaction to the incident was, we’re told, the moment the Texans decided to move on from Osweiler.

Came here to post the same thing. Sounds like Brock doesn't have the makeup to last in the league.

Before people pile on O'Brien, it sounds like he was doing what a coach should do. Your quarterback, backup or not, has to be a leader on the team. To puss out and throw a tantrum like that, in the NFL, when asked to lead the team for the rest of the game, is just not professional.

Osweiler may be out of the league soon with that news. At least he'll laugh all the way to the bank. Maybe the guy should have stuck to basketball, where the coaching and physicality isn't so tough.

It doesn't sound like it was as physical as made out to be. Maybe it was like the Izzo thing, but sounds like a little more contact. Even still, I can't imagine a quarterback throwing a hissy fit when being told that he was gonna play to rest of the game, with a good shot at starting his first playoff game. Wow.

Should have been in the playoffs all 3 years if the browns had beaten the Ravens on the last day of the season

Okay....so BOB is good at making QB's better elsewhere, awesome. Too bad he's not any good at all at making QB's good here. In fact, he usually makes them worse here. It's cool though because they'll go on to be awesome elsewhere, exactly what you want from your head coach.

Seems like many here think he should have been turning chicken **** into chicken salad.

As for the Brock incident... what a pansy. Can't believe people were actually holding out hope that he'd get better.

Combine crappy mechanics, crappy knowledge/instincts with a crappy attitude... it's a recipe for the dumpster fire that he eventually became.
