I don't care what the position is I don't think we need any more undersized players At this point the League needs oversized players . . it seems So who are the BIG GUARDS and FORWARDS that are available ? Rocket River We need height and Length!!
Dunleavy needs to shoot consistently and then i'll consider it. One year he is amazing and the other year he close to ending up in the D-league
Gerald Green, CJ Miles, Kelena Azubuike at the SG Spot. Udrih at the PG Spot Mihm at the Center spot. DD
Gerald Green at 6'8" is the only oversized guy. The rest of them are average height for their respective position.
I felt like we got Out Muscled/Out Hussled in the playoffs and Other teams to consistantly be too tall for us . .. Rocket River
That's the only real problem I've had with Morey so far. You can't keep duplicating what you already have on the roster. Outside of Greene ( a project) we have picked undersized players the last 2 years. If I'm not mistaken we have picked an undersized player in the draft going back to Luther. Size matters.
How about the Rockets just get the best players they can, taking size into account along with all the other factors?
I agree with bringing in no more undersized players, but let's take a look at the Champ Rockets in comparison to the 07-08 active roster: Kenny - 6'3 vs. Rafer - 6'2 Max - 6'4 vs. T-mac - 6'8 Rob - 6'10 vs. Battier - 6'8 OT - 6'10 vs. Scola - 6'9 Dream - 7'0 vs. Yao - 7'6 Cassell / Brooks - 6'3 / 5'11 vs. Bobby J / Brooks - 6'1 / 5'11 Elie - 6'5 vs. Head - 6'3 Jent - 6'7 Herrera - 6'9 vs. Landry / Hayes / Novak - 6'9 / 6'6 / 6'10 Riley /Cureton - 7'0 / 6'9 vs. Mutombo - 7'2 This is the 12 most active players they ended up with so it turns out we're not that undersized as people think. Only Hayes & Head are a bit small but that's it. Hopefully we bring in another PG & SG we do have a fair size.
Looking back at recent history, it seems like most of the big guys drafted in the 2nd round who succede have been undersized. Examples: Ryan Gomes Paul Millsap Leon Powe Carlos Boozer Eduardo Najera Malik Rose Connversely, if you want a 'big big' in the second, you draft a Euro or a HS player and wait several years for them to possibly develop for the most part. Ronny Turiaf, Dan Gadzuric, and maybe Francisco Elson seem to be the only real exceptions to this that I can find unless you think Josh McRoberts is a star in the making. So I think it appears that if you draft a small guy in the second, you are much more likely to get someone who can play. This effect seems present in the late first as well, though here it is less pronounced, with tall guys guys like Samuel Dalembert making things more even vs. Jason Maxiell, Nazr Mohammed, and David Lee. I would like the Rockets to get taller. I agree with the OP. But drafting short guys doesn't prevent you from then signing bigger guys in free agency or trading your NBA quality small bigs for taller ones. For instance, short man Ryan Gomes was very helpful in getting Kevin Garnett. I don't think that the goal of getting bigger should prevent you from drafting the players who have the greatest chance of succeding in the NBA. If it turns out, as appears to be the case, that size is one of the flaws that second rounders can overcome more easily, I think that it would be prudent to keep drafting the midgets in the 2nd or late 1st.
when morey has drafted as well as he did in the past couple of years, I chose to believe him when he says "NBA currently over-value height as a whole". If his statistics shows that an undersize yet skilled player gives the better value, I'll trust him on that until otherwise proven.
Summed my thoughts up nicely. In the late 1st/second round, you can either draft someone with a good size who isn't very good or a decent player who didn't go higher only because of his size. Good players with good size are lottery picks.
