It would be cool if this had a detrimental effect on his shooting and the primary reason he's such a good shooter was because of the astigmatism. I can dream can't I?

    Damn, sorry man.

What do they experience besides the blurry vision? Is it painful?

I'm not questioning you just genuinely curious.

I like to categorize between three stages: mild, moderate, and severe.

A mild cone patient might be correctable with standard glasses and soft contacts. They'd likely experience your typical astigmatism like shadowing/ghost images or stretched lights like in this example. [IMG]

A moderate cone will start seeing similar to this [IMG]
without correction. Standard glasses or contacts will correct to maybe 20/60 vision (3x blurrier than standard). This example is more like a severe cone, but it illustrates the ghosting and shadows compared to regular astigmatism. A hard lens can focus their vision close to 20/20.

Severe cones will have the vision of the latter photo at best. This is where pain happens as the cornea can develop blisters. If you've ever scratched your eye, imagine that pain but 10x worse. These patients need corneal transplants.

Curry is likely a mild cone. That means regular contacts might work, but based off his statements, I'm thinking he was fit with a hard contact lens to improve his vision from what he was used to. He'll need a procedure similar to LASIK that will prevent his prescription from worsening dramatically. There's about a week recovery time, so it'll likely get done in the offseason.

I'm surprised he hasn't been diagnosed before now. Any standard eye exam would raise flags for extra testing to confirm a diagnosis. His improved vision will make him a more deadly shooter, unfortunately.

I have astigmatism. Pretty moderate based on your photos. I plan to get LASIK someday, hopefully soon. I expect an article written about me tomorrow for my rare condition.

Will you be my new eye doctor? I got some problems I would love to discuss.

I can't pay much in money, but perhaps can offer some dank memes instead?

Not sure why they focused on his shooting for the benefits of this improved vision. Shooting is mostly muscle memory and knowing where you are on the court; vision really only matters when it comes to where you’re aiming and a little bit of blur probably isn’t going to affect that.

What it will help him more with is court vision and being able to make the correct read on a pass. It’ll also help with receiving passes or swiping at balls/defense since he’ll be able to focus better. However, since these weren’t really brought up, and Curry didn’t go through a period of turning the ball over a ton, I doubt this was as major an issue as the article implies. Basically just a puff piece to try and build Steph’s rep.

Sure if you're in Austin. Unfortunately, I'm not the boss so I can't take dank memes as payment. But I have accepted other favors, if you know what I mean.

Yeesh!... I used to get the 1st pic in my early to mid 20s.... but it wasn't as terrible or painful. Now the 2nd pic, I can't imagine anyone doing much of anything.

My astigmatism is worse in my left eye (+4) compared to my right eye, so I qualified for LASIK, which I should be getting soon.

Now we know that if he ends up getting LASIK anytime soon, it was the worst of the disease.
