According to some people with the organization, they are high on Lue. If for any reason things don't work out with MDA this year, he will be one of the first people they get with.

This organization has really gone to the dumps. Already thinking of replacing MDA, who in reality deserves an extension, but Morey and Tilman wanted to implement an incentive based contract to set a precedence.

Yeah, not buying it, I think cyberx is definitely the type to stir thinks up and just passing on things that are far from solid intel.

MDA won't be fired unless he blows the play-offs again like last seasons game 5.

I hope it doesn't happen, and if I had to bet, I don't think it will.

But Warren LeGarie is playing a dangerous game. If the Rockets get off to a slow start this year for any reason, having MDA as a lameduck without even a penny of guaranteed money due to him after 2019-20 naturally leads to this type of chatter. And with D'Antoni being 68 years old, I really don't think his market around the league (if he becomes a "FA" coach) would be all that great.

Hopefully the Rockets get off to a fast start and render all of this moot. Clearly, LeGarie seems to think the financial package to MDA will get better if the team goes out and has success this season. But there's a significant downside risk, too, if that deal remains unsigned...

I see nothing wrong with being realist and saying we recognize this can go in a bad direction and if it does we want to be ready.
There goal is to win a championship, MDA has never delivered on that and in fact the Rockets have been exactly what every successful MDA led team has been. Really good in regular season, always falling short in the playoffs.
While I want MDA to succeed, I am perfectly fine with them saying lets have a contingency plan

Then why is Lue about to sign with the Clippers from all accounts out there and not as an assistant with the Rockets?

I'm up for a coaching change if necessary, but Lue is a downgrade. Maybe after a year of serving on Rivers staff.

Really hope that's not the direction we're headed.

as an assistant...he’ll leave that real quick if he’s offered a good head coaching job

Uh, I'm pretty confident he'd leave an assistant gig to be a head coach, assuming he views the pay as fair.

They must be high if they even consider signing Lue.

I’d rather Clippers get Lue and we take Cassell! He has paid his dues, bring the legend home

I’m not understanding what the Rockets see in Lue. JVG should be brought back on MDA doesn’t work out. Lue would not only be a downgrade to MDA overall, but also, he would bring the worst quality of MDA to the team which is that he won’t hold stars accountable. The Rockets need a disciplinarian who has deep knowledge of the game, not only in terms of x’s & o’s but also philosophically. JVG was a great coach with a much too conservative an offense but he did demanded respect. As a highly intelligent person, he has spent the past decade studying the game and its evolution. I’m sure he has probably figured some things out....
