Sounds like a great plan for the Lakers @cyberx. Thanks for the intel. Gonna be hard to pull off of course but the logic is sound.

I think one of the bigger problems is the "timing." If Kawhi is traded, that might not be until later in the summer.

How would the dominos have to fall to make all of this happen.

they can afford it (the tax, that is); rounding out the roster will take some doing but doing it will be do'd. If they can effect the plan, as is, that is...

It's going to be comical when PG13 leaves OKC and Russ and Melo will only have each other to stare at next season.

I think the Spurs will definitely take a re-signed Randle and Ingram plus picks for Leonard even if it means shipping Kawhi to LA. That would accelerate Pop's youth movement and rebuilding.

    Lol.

Dirk's career postseason PER is higher than his regular season. Same career ts%, higher ORtg in playoffs, slightly worse DRtg. On a PER 100 basis, basically everything is in line, though a better rebounder in the playoffs. He led the league 3 times in WS/48 in the playoffs. He led the league in PER once in the playoffs. At worst, he was the same player in the playoffs as he was in the regular season. Ignoring the totality of his career, it is taken down because of the GSW series... rightfully. But as you note, he also had the one year god-mode.

Yeah, lost in this thread is that this would be a REALLY solid haul for Kawhi.

If Kawhi's being traded, it's because he wants out. If he wants out of the Spurs, he will want out of whereever he goes next, unless its someplace he wants. You can't just get everyone and anyone bidding on these players, even if you want to. That's why the return is typically not great when you move a player like Kawhi, relatively speaking.

Julius Randle can be a heck of an NBA player.

Brandom Ingram is still only 20, and putting up 16/5/4 on decent efficiency.

Both still need lots of work and seasoning.

I mean it would likely rule out any immediate term championships, but that is basically ruled out as soon as its definitive Kawhi isn't going to play for the Spurs anymore.

Thanks for this. How did you tag him? Wanted to see if Bima can confirm that this is possible.

I think there is a real possibility that the Spurs can get more than Ingram and Randle.

I could be mistaken but I believe Randle is going to be a free agent at the end of this season.
Further the Lakers have tried to trade Randle in the past and have received lukewarm interest.

The Celtics and Sixers off the top of my head could beat that offer easily and for a two way player like Leonard, I am sure there are others.

Randle has been on a nice run. Really killing it. Bring up his stats from March.

I've stated multiple times that someone could come with a better offer.

I saw this rumor pop up a couple times and hoped it was fake.

Lebron/Kawhi would be frightening for a wing to score against.

Pop would want MORE than that.
Ingram has great potential but Pops will still demand more IMO

What does he bring playing next to LaMarcus?
Or is he coming off the bench?

Kawhi for a promising youngster and a bench player?

It doesn't beat what Boston can offer, and it assumes Randle (RFA) will want to be in SA, where another good PF currently resides.

This is a great thinking exercise. If you were SA, would you rather have...
Ingram, Randle, Kuzma plus picks from LA,

    or

Tatum, Brown, salary filler, plus picks from BOS.

    or

    WILD CARD - PHI

Fultz, Saric, Richard Holmes(I wish HOU had him) plus picks.

I honestly don't know what I would do.

I would assume Lebron is going to set up guys. Maybe they can try to be like us and have two primary ball handlers, though Lonzo is easily two tiers below Harden/CP3 in that respect.

Heard the rift was caused by the Spurs approaching Kawhi about signing a 'hometown discount' contract, but that they are fully prepared to offer him the max to keep him around. I would not be shocked if he was traded, but I also think it's something that will go away once he gets back on the court.
