Ok, so basically you're willing to take him for trash, and some first round picks. Why would Boston make that deal?

I still think we could do better trading with the Wizards and have a better chance of fleecing them. We should be going after Porter and Oubre.

Gordon is still not looking like his old self yet. Boston is worried and is known for trade raping, and wants to trade rape a desperate team into getting multiple first round picks so they can package it up and go after Anthony Davis . It’s a no go for me, no point in getting in the repeater tax for a player that won’t guarantee a championship. At the end of the day we get Gordon Hayward now, we set Boston up for AD. Might as well go all out for AD

These are also two teams @Codman has been talking about. On the Grizz, don't forget JaMychal Green. He is currently out with a broken jaw but expected back in 2 weeks. Another nice role player on the Grizz is Garrett Temple. These are the kinds of guys you want coming off the bench.

Suns have to sort out their wing situation. Bridges, Jackson, Ariza, Warren etc.

No, I understand that, but he's hardly at the point of being a negative asset like Ryno. Boston can afford to hold out, give Hayward time to get back to form, and then shop him closer to the deadline. I'm fairly certain this was just Ainge fishing to see if Morey was desperate.

Unless we land a top draft pick this year, like top 3, there should be no conversation about us getting AD. There will be, because this is clutchfans, and Morey will still call and offer Capela, EG, Clark and 4 first rounders, but Celtics alone can trump our offer without making their best offer.

One way to look at it is that now he's in his lowest trade value and the other way to look at it is that now he's in his highest trade value.
If he doesn't perform like a star with his salary that rises every year, then he's one of the worst contracts in the league.

But I wonder, with the Grizzlies currently playing above most pre-season expectations, do they try to get better, or with a narrow window and Injuries-Waiting-to-Happen players (Conley, Gasol, Chandsome) do they decide to implode and get expirings / draft picks / whatever?

Last year the Celtics tried to trade Jaylen Brown for the Mavericks top five pick last years. Ainge always try’s to trade his players that he knows will suffer and hold the team back. It looks good now, but let’s look at the bigger picture. CHAMPIONSHIP why would we want him if a another championship team like us doesn’t want him. He’s damaged goods

Yeah, that's been my hope as well - at some point they have to make a decision between Oubre(about to get a big contract) and Porter(already got a fat contract) who essentially do the same thing....not to mention that team needs a personnel shakeup in the worst way regardless so all the more reason the Wiz have to at least explore the trade environment because on talent they should be an easy top 2 or 3 team in the East and they currently are as bad as the Bulls and Knicks.

not sure where the oubre getting a big contract is coming from. not exactly a great prospect or player. a pretty limited player

That's why there's no movement created for Oubre.

Haven't watched a single Celtics game. With that said, GH's shooting numbers look bad.

I knew that his percentages were down, so I was hoping that it's because he was taking a worse shot selection. However, that does not appear to be the case. His shot selection is actually better so far this year than in previous 3 full years*, if we assume midrange shots are bad. (Interestingly, I saw some stats recently showing that "shots in the paint but outside the restricted area" have so far been slightly worse than "shots outside the paint but inside the 3pt line".)

His shooting percentage from 0-3 has fallen from 65.2% to 60.9%. FG% from 3-10 has had the biggest fall off, from 40.5% to 30.8%, but that's not a huge deal since it's only 11% of his FG attempts. His 3point percentage has fallen from 37.0% to 31.9%.

Really the decline in his shooting numbers appears to be mostly due to him shooting way more 3s (from 32.3% of his FGs to 42.3% of his FGs) and shooting them poorly (again, from 37.0% to 31.9%), and secondly the 5 percentage point drop at FGs from 0-3 feet.

Also, his free throw rate has fallen off a cliff - from 39.7% to 18.9%. That is... not a good sign.

So I guess the question is: Do we think this will continue? And that would have to be answered by someone who has actually watched him and the Celtics play.

Is he taking more 3s selfishly or as part of their system?
Is he less open this year than in previous years?
Is his decline at scoring at the rim due to less explosiveness and/or strength or is it just rust from sitting out a year?
    Etc etc

To me, without the context of seeing him play for a second this season, I would not be eager to trade for him.

*I'm comparing his current season to the 3 seasons before last, since those were his top years and are the years that most contributed to his current contract.

Yup, Ainge is in a position where he doesn't necessarily have to hold out hope that Hayward regains his pre-injury form because his team is stacked as is. If Hayward gets traded and goes back to being All-Star Gordon, Ainge would still have accomplished two great things--getting out of that contract and getting assets in return.

I think that's a hard question to answer because we really don't know what ownership and the front office is planning for this year and the next. There's no way out of Conley's or Parsons' contract but those were given out when the team looked like they could be a 4th-5th seed contender. Plus their 2019 1st is Top 8 protected so if they lose/tank too hard that pick will probably go to Boston.

They might just try to "compete" this year and next, let Gasol and Parsons both come off of the books in 2020, and sign/overpay a free agent that same summer.
