This sounds like CP3 acquiescing to LeBron's desire to go through the FA process. I don't have any issues with it, but it's also not my money.

Of course CP3 would tell this to Morey. What good would it do to keep this to himself, all while Morey operates under the assumption that he would NOT take a paycut? CP3 is trying to win. He's over playing mind games with front offices.

Morey had these scenarios drawn out for CP3 for a talent horizon LAST summer.

 

Absolutely. Even in the introductory press conference last year, CP3 mentioned wanting to learn salary cap management and the intricacies of the CBA from Morey. He obviously respects Morey's ability to acquire talent.

 

So I guess CP3 is saying: upgrade the roster and I'll take a slight cut, but if upgrades aren't made you have to pay me max.

So for our sake, I hope we upgrade the roster. The end of a CP3 max deal will be brutal IMO.

 

No chance Chris takes $50 million dollars less or something equivalent to that on a 3-4 year deal, on his new deal. That is crazy.

Just remember this from the Rockets Iggy FA pursuit last year. Don't think for a second Morey did not have everything mapped out for CP3

That S&T scenario would require a HUGE sacrifice from CP3. Leaving money on the table is 1 thing, but having to split 24 mil between u and the rest of the roster spots after leaving 10 or so mil on the table last summer?

 

Which in the end was just a tool Iggy used as leverage to get the Warriors to up their offer.

Iggy never wanted to play here. He used Morey and the team to get the deal he wanted and this is just fluff to thank the Rockets for being leverage.

There's no reason to do a sign and trade when both LeBron AND CP3 would be able to make more money without it.

 

It's not really a huge sacrifice if he signs a KD-type deal. He losses 10 mil? It seems like him and Morey are doing wink-wink stuff anyway.

Say we get LeBron. Can't Chris just do a 1yr/$24M deal with a player option for the following season? That way, he can just opt out and get the max even later in his career and we won't be as mad about it because it'll be right after our 3rd championship (and he will have delivered us LeBron)!

The minimum roster charges will eat into that Paul salary. Since a hardcap prevent using ANY exceptions to exceed it, you must add the required 12-man minimum roster charges to team salary before paying Paul.

He already did us a favor. He might do it again, but it's really selfish of Morey and Tilman to not remember he already took a discount.

 

Which I think actually worked out better for us. We got PJ and Iggy missed almost 20 games throughout the year and pretty much the entire HOU/GSW series.
