2009 NBA Draft

Pick No: Player
2 Hasheem Thabeet
9 Jordan Hill
11 Terrence Williams
29 DeMarre Carroll
32 Jermaine Taylor (traded)
34 Sergio Llull (unsigned)
44 Chase Budinger

It's just a little bit strange that a team that had no first round picks in 2009 now has four. None of whom have done anything. The best player in the bunch came with our last pick.

Morey actually planted mind control devices in them draft day to make them suck so we could snag em. Next year the chips will be deactivated.

The only one in there with sophomore slump is Chase

The rest didn't do shet in their rookie season to be considered slumping..

DM is taking the shotgun approach. One of these guys is bound to develop into a great player, right?

Additionally, I infer from Morey's press conference that these young guys are likely to get some playing time at least. He acknowledges that Thabeet and Terrence are both projects

at this point I'd rather us try and win with our young players, not try to lose games, but just give the young guys minutes and let them try. Rest Martin Scola, man has been playing non stop forever, Hayes and to an extent Klow for next season. I wouldn't be mad if we finished with a bad player if all our young talent got more experience for the next season.

Most people on this board would consider that to be tanking since letting the young projects play big minutes means they most likely wont win.

I'm guessing Morey's infatuation with the 2009 draft class is to maintain maximum flexibility for the summer of 2012. These players will have three years of seasoning, but will still be on their rookie contracts. Resulting in a team with young role players already in place, and cap space to sign one or two FA superstars (depending on how high the cap is set under the new CBA).

I think the owner's demand of a $45 million hard cap will never fly. If there is a hard cap in place, look for it to be a little higher than the current soft cap, as a compromise.
