ESPNEWS is reporting that the Sonics have fired Westphal and will name former Seattle guard Nate McMillan to replace him. A Sonics spokesperson said the team has planned a news conference for today at 4:00 p.m. EST. Westphal has been under fire the past two weeks due to the Sonics' slow start and his fate was likely sealed following a series of recent arguments with the tempermental Payton, the team's point guard. Seattle (6-9) is in fifth place in the Pacific Division, five games behind the first-place Phoenix Suns. Westphal, who offered to resign during the first week of the season, was in his third campaign with the Sonics. He replaced George Karl following the Sonics' 61-win season in 1998. That makes me sick. That A-hole Payton should have been traded. I watch most of the Sonic games, and can see what a jerk Payton really is. All that team's talent, and he has to jack up 40 shots a night. Westphal is not the reason Baker and Ewing are having such bad seasons. Payton is.
