    If you don't know Ted Hawkins you should. I was wondering around my favorite record store in DC back in the 80's and the store clerk's notes (yes they had curated record stores back in the day) said Ted Hawkins was the best blues player you have never heard of. Well I had never heard of Ted Hawkins but the store clerk might have been right. His back story is crazy - street busker who died just when he was finally gaining a modicum of success. These are not actually his best songs but they are on topic - thanks Buck for a decent thread.

    Ok maybe not, but Coleman Hawkins did a smooth very 1940's saxaphone jazz version of the same song.
