I think Morey calculated for Pauls decline. Assumed we would have last years version of Paul this year and then two incremental years of decline. Additionally it would be a decline of a smart capable player who would still contribute as his skills would seemingly age well. What blew up is Paul's decline was so big. Melo? To this day I have no clue why anyone thought that muffin head would do anything but occasionally clog up the toilet. That kind of turd will always block the drain. On paper Ennis seemed to be a poor mans Ariza. Phoenix throwing a purse of gold at him. Well what can you do? MCW? Must have been the first time Morey took a drag on a fentanyl laced joint. I have no clue where to go from here. As is we are a good team, but one in decline as our second best player is fading. Our center who ran his mouth shriveled up like a snail dropped in salt. I am sure if Morey could find a dumping ground for CP3's massive contract he would have to explore it. But then we are back to "find me some help". Accomplishing that will be a challenge. Will be a lot of F5'ing this summer. :Unfortunately I am not optimistic we will see this kind of splash

Rockets have been a very good team for many years, we got a COTY, MVP, 6man awards, been to the WCF's multiple years, had the best record in the league, set a franchise high in wins, and were a hamstring injury away from being champions. I wouldn't call it a complete failure, it's been fun, we've been a respectable team.
To be fair, Morey did wake up from his early drug-induced coma to bring in the likes of Austin Rivers and Faried, and we got our money's worth out of them for sure. So even this season wasn't a total failure.
Maybe Morey is just an Immortal Being and a Guardian of Trades. He got tons of time while we mortals dun.
That is summarized as we spend 7 years time to build a 3rd place or runners up. We always knew there would be a GSW that is stronger than us. Better than nothing. It is worth not going thru the deeper realms of the Lottery.
Being arguably the 2nd best team in a league of 30 teams is not a giant failure. So far they have come up short of their ultimate goal. But, not being able to knock off one of the best teams of all time is nothing to be ashamed of. Some Rockets fans have become spoiled with the success that this team has enjoyed. It won't always be this good.
