Houston Astros #13 WAR Winning Percentage: .525; Current Winning Percentage: .444; WAR Wins: 5; Current Wins: 4 Lots of teams finish the season with a malpractice-bad .346 winning percentage and come back the next year to return to playoff contention, right? Well, not usually, but that's what the Astros are trying to do. The savvy new front office has assembled a roster of nearly almost unknown players and managed to make them into an almost winning team. They have gone from allowing about 4.9 runs per game in 2011 to only 4.1 this year. Will it hold? Eh, maybe not. No way the Astros are ranked this high all season long, but it does speak to the fact that this team is not nearly as bad as most had thought/feared.
hey, altuve and Jd look like a nice players. we should trade him to the phillies for prospects in 2020. =/ seriously... houston, though the record might not show it, is playing good baseball.
They could easily be 9-3 or better. Scored 57 runs, Allowed 53 runs. Pythagorean W-L: 7-6 they could really use a different lefty in the bullpen
Thread bump. Newest SI rankings are out and the Stros are (dare I say) in the top 10? Wow. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/baseball/mlb/05/07/fangraphs.power.rankings.week4/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t13_a0 If the pitching can just catch up to the hitting a little bit, this season may not be all lost by June like everyone figured it would be. That's a big IF, though.
What matters most....they are worth watching again. There are actually a few players doing well and worth rooting for. If we finish anywhere near .500 and Myers and Wandy have been shipped out for prospects....then the season was a huge success.
