Should the top seed get to pick who they play in the playoffs?

Objectively speaking, isn’t it unfair that the two top teams in the playoffs have to play either spurs or thunder? It works out for us as rockets fans this year, (and f the warriors), but I’m wondering if anyone else thinks that the league will eventually let the top 4 seeds in each conference write out a list of who they want to see first.

This would be a much greater incentive to win than winning for home court advantage in a 7 game series.

I agree with this. I also support more of first round bye as well.

It really gives the better team an advantage, while giving all teams more incentives to finish first or second.

Sorry nope, that is no fairness. They have to play the whole year or at least more than 7 months for me to even consider the concept.

Without the playoffs they play 4 months now.

    Status Quo.

You're the top seed. You should be taking care of business.

I'm not getting why the top seed any more help.

Imagine how much harder the bottom seeds would play knowing you picked them. I would like this scenario.

nope. my how the spirit of actual competition has gone downhill.

not picking the bottom seed because you're scared of playing someone? you're not really a top seed then. stop it

No. I am not interested in even watching such a league where teams can pick opponents, so if this ever comes to pass I'm out.

what do you mean? If their record doesn't determine their seed, why wouldn't they just rest for the final week?

[edit] sorry, I misread your post.

I think he means in the playoffs series. Kind of like, "You think you can beat me easily? I'll make it hard for you!"

And yeah, picking of opponent may give incentive to get the top seed, but it gives no incentive for the lower seeds to compete for seeding at the end.

My impression is that the top seed is usually not a competitive spot. Most of the time, a top team has secured the #1 spot early. The situation with the West this year seems kind of rare.

It's usually the bottom bracket that is more competitive in term of fighting for seeding.

Bottom 2 seeds will be defeated this year. They are not good. They would be good in East.

Good points, everyone would pick injury team.

Pass... would rather the NBA get rid of east/west and do a true top 16 team playoffs.

    Final four without conference.

I have long supported top 3 teams picking from bottom 4. A few times a 5-8 seed gets a player in trade or someone returns healthy and the team is stronger than their seed. Sometimes you'd rather match up with another team, that team could take it as a chip on their shoulder. Image the fans freaking out on the front office.
