Just making the playoffs is a win for Charlotte. Not everyone is aiming for titles. Getting the 6th seed is like their championship.

I guess so. But to progress, you either have to be really good or really bad. Can't imagine the FO is okay with being and staying mediocre. (But then again, MJ hasn't shown signs of being a good owner)

I heavily disagree, though Memphis has better barbeque.

marc gasol is a great player, but he is vastly on the decline down, he could be great help for as a 4th star i mean he just doesn't have it anymore, and he just turn 34. When Memphis had that team with zach randolf, they were really good. Not anymore lol. Those three seasons 13-15 they had very good years, damn solid defensive team, but lack something i dont know what, and didn't do it during marc prime years which was the years indicated. Oh well.

The Hornets, for better or for worse, are stuck with their roster through next season. Biyombo and MKG will pick up their player options for 17 and 13 million, respectifully, and nobody is trading for them, Cody Zeller, Marvin Williams, or Batum unless they attach first round draft picks. Getting Gasol for the rumored package of Biyombo, Kaminsky (who doesn’t even play for them), and a 2019 1st (14th overall right now) makes sense in their situation. Worse case scenario, they can extract almost as much value out of Gasol by trading him again at next year’s deadline.

No way Gasol opts in unless he gets injured.

You might be right, even though his player option is quite lucrative at 25.6 million. At 34, he may think this offseason is his last chance to get a multi-year deal for at least 20 million a season.

However, trading for Gasol now still means the Hornets get to shed Biyombo’s 17 million from their books next season, which is a win for them.

    http://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/...skeptical-on-marc-gasol-trade-sn-sources-say/

On Tuesday night, reports of a potential deal that would send Grizzlies center Marc Gasol to the Hornets heated up, with some combination of wings Malik Monk and/or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist as the chief return piece for Memphis.

But league sources told Sporting News that the Hornets and Grizzlies do not have an agreement in place, and that there is increasing skepticism on both sides that a trade can be brought to bear ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. The Hornets have had interest in Gasol for some time, but a deal has not progressed.

Gasol sat out of Tuesday’s game against Minnesota, fueling speculation that he would be traded by night’s end. Monk played only 14 minutes in Charlotte’s loss to the Clippers, and he was seen leaving the locker room early, before he could speak to reporters. (It's worth noting Monk leaving the locker room before reporters enter is not uncommon.) But both were still on their respective rosters as Tuesday night became Wednesday morning.

Charlotte is 26-27 overall, with a front office eager for a playoff berth. But the Hornets are wary of taking on Gasol, who has a player option for next season at $25.5 million, which could be a heavy burden for the nearly capped-out Hornets, unless the Grizzlies were willing to take back some of Charlotte’s bad salaries.

The Hornets would give up MKG for Gasol in a heartbeat. But the Grizzlies are deluding themselves if they think the Hornets will include Monk on his rookie deal, too.
