Paul was amazing against the Lakers, I wonder if he hurt his hand when he punched Rondo??

You thought this team was bad without Paul. Now you're seeing it without Harden. That's all.

He went to a darker place after that, no smiles and all.

the rockets offense isnt that hard it comes down to making shots and playing good defense. its all mental at this point. the offseason appears to have been too rough for the rockets.

Here's something to add to the mix... how is team chemistry with the whole Tomball Jimmy scenario?

It's one thing if mgmt is exploring trade possibilities to improve the team...
but ive seen people say that Harden and CP3 are tight with Jimmy...
so if they are in favor of kickin EGO out to get Tomall Jimmy... how's that playing into things?
Is EGO like 'oh that's how it is... i thought we were a tight team... but evidently not...'

...And then is CC realizing that he just got his money - but he could be dealt without a second thought?

Are guys picking up on tension if EGO feels slighted?

Basically, after a bunch of 'cornerstones and roleplayers' nonsense we actually looked like a team last year... everybody was hustlin... everybody was playin defense...

well off season came... 2 guys got paid - 2 guys were let to walk... and the possibilities of another getting traded is out there...

Not to mention, who knows what happened with Bzdelik? Did he just walk without warning... or did he give some warning shots regarding personnel and was ignored - so he figured fkit...

You can go on all the teambuilding excursions you want... but if guys get back home and feel like they're not valued - or see their peers underappreciated - it aint gonna hold up...

    jus sayin...

Can people stop saying it's because we lost Ariza?

dude is averaging 9.5 points, a 7.3 PER, 33% fg shooting, and a 31% fg shooting. And his defense is overrated, as he has been getting torched all season

    we suck because

    1. Bzdelik. Roy Rogers has no business manning the defense
    2. Ill fits. MCW isn't good at anything except being tall
    3. James Harden injury/CP3 suspension
    4. Eric Gordon playing like ass
    5. Our offensive philosophy of jacking three's and staying away from mid-range is trash. Especially when all of our shooters are streak shooters.
    6. Our rebounding is atrocious.
    7. We're undersized

I think it's a combination of things. Last year's team had been together except for CP. CP is someone who will make others better and can adapt, though it took him a little bit.

We had the pieces who all knew their roles and what they could do to fit in with the team, the system and make the team better. Ariza, Mbah A Moute, etc. They knew what they needed to do to help. Nene was also there to fill a role. It was a case where the whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

Now we have a hurt Harden, key players are gone, Gordon isn't sure exactly what his role is and he's streaky as well. We have Melo which isn't a good fit and I just don't like him and hate his defense.

The Rockets went for better players who aren't better role players and don't make our team better despite having more talent.

I know that I rag on Melo every chance I get, and he hasn't done anything specific to make me blame him except his lack of defense and his skill set isn't what we need on our team.

Last year we weren't another star player away from the finals we were either an injury less or a deeper bench to make up for that injury away from making the playoffs. Our focus should have been on that and not Lebron or Anthony during the offseason.

It was the way the team worked together last year that made our defense solid. Trevor knew what he had to do, and which opposing players he needed to play which way based on what our line-up was and what was needed in that game. Clint Knew that if he switched that it would work because the rest of the team would make the proper adjustments.

This year we aren't playing the same kind of team defense, and our team seems like they don't know each other's game well enough to form that cohesive unit like we had last year.

I don't doubt that Anthony is trying and he isn't making a stink about his role, but with such key pieces changed because of the subtraction of our critical role players, we are hurting.

The team needs to figure out a new identity for itself and have everyone gel to their role in that identity or get pieces that will complement the old identity.

In part, it is because we lost Ariza. He wasn't great when he played with us and he isn't great now. But he was a great fit for our team. He knew his role for our team and he could fill that role. He wasn't going to have stellar stats and he didn't need to. But he could play with our players and it made him better and our team better.

    Clint has been fine.

The rest of the team looks terrible.

They replaced 2 guys that hustle and are smart with those that either don't hustle or are not all that quick of wit.

Paul in terms of individual stats has started the season shooting poorly before, but the Clippers didn't lose the games.

Eg: 15-16, 15 pts / 4 rebs / 8 ast / 3 tov, 42/27, but Clippers started off 4-0. Now, they played Sacramento twice, Phoenix and Dallas, and won 3/4 by single digits, so the schedule was favorable to not lose. He'll likely pick it up.

Gordon is inconsistent anyways, the trade rumors might be part of the issue, or he might just be playing inconsistently and will go back to the mean.

Seems obvious to me what's going on.

    1) Tank the first part of the season. Make it look like the team is garbage and heading for a terrible record.
    2) Trick other teams into believing that our first round picks are actually worth something.
    3) Make a big trade with our picks. Reel in a JB or similar.
    4) Take the mask off and go on a massive W streak post-trade, enough to get back in playoffs before season's end.
    5) Win it all with new acquisition.

    Genius, right?

Paul probably isn't as conditioned as he normally would be - he had a bad hamstring and that probably limited his summer greatly and honestly he still may not be 100% recovered from the injury itself.

Clint is putting up the same numbers as last year, arguably slightly better.

    Gordon is streaky.

Still none of that explains getting blowing out. One thing if this team was losing games by 5 points. But what - 6 double digit loses now in 7 games?

Speaks to the Rockets' culture or lack of a winning culture in the locker room.

Discipline, effort, heart, teamwork are values that should be instilled in every player who comes in. MDA may be too laid-back to instil discipline and is at the mercy of his veteran players.

If he cannot remedy some of the problems, he will lose the trust of even Harden.
