Oh no! Can't anyone on Capitol Hill spell? Bobby Cox's name butchered in ceremony

One day, Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox says, he'll be able to laugh about it.

    Well, maybe.

For now, the folks on Capitol Hill who honored Cox on Tuesday for his legendary career look like complete morons.

You see, the cake ordered for Cox, saying, "Thanks for 50 Great Years," Bobby C---- was misspelled.

    Badly misspelled.

    Blundered beyond belief.

Take a look for yourselves, courtesy of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Cox, honored for his 50 years in baseball, was honored in a ceremony hosted by Senators Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.).

They managed not only to misspell his name, but the cake had a profane misspelling of his last name.

Sheridan Watson, Isakson's spokesperson offered this explanation to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"Bobby and the players came to the Hill and spoke at our staff meeting. Immediately after the staff meeting, he and players posed for pictures and signed baseballs for our staff members. The scheduler and I then went to the Capitol to get ready for the reception. The catering company had delivered the cake and we immediately realized his last name was spelled incorrectly. The only people who saw it were me, the scheduler and unfortunately some media members who had arrived early and took pictures. We immediately started cutting the cake."

And what happened to those pieces of cake that were cut out?

"We smeared the icing,'' she said, "so you couldn't make out what it said.

When a reporter in Cox's office asked Cox how they spelled his name.

"The wrong way," Cox said, who did have a piece of cake. "It was good."

They got his p*rn name right. That's something I guess.

Maybe it was a former SEC employee turned cake-maker?

Why was he being honored on Capitol Hill to begin with?

I think he and several players spoke at a conference sponsored by the Rep from Atlanta. After they spoke the Rep wanted to honor him for his service time with the Braves and in MLB.

Most umpires would say it was spelled correctly.
