This guy will be better than over half the guys drafted in the first round. STRENGTHS: 1. bball iq out the ying yang - kid is very intelligent 2. attitude - out of this world 3. big time rebounder 4. Can score down low and on the perimter and will be even more efficient playing next to some real bigs in the NBA 5. Good girth at 250 to hold offensive and defensive position in the low block WEAKNESSES: 1. Average length 2. Average athleticism This guy is going to be a very good NBA player.
I only saw WVirginia for a few minutes against Gonzaga. So my opinion is weak at best on this kid. I watched his highlights and I do love the qualities Jopat uses to describe him. But undersized without superior athleticism is usually a hard thing to transfer to the next level. Chuck Hayes is a rare exception. And as I am reading this guys stats and DE's write up on him that's exactly what they said. This kid could be another Chuck Hayes. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aJaS3aNWv7A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The good thing is if he really does have that ability he still should be available in the second round. This draft is loaded and what he does best won't translate in the combines. He is short not overly fast with average hops. It will take a lot of vision for GM's to see past that. If Morey sees what you guys see he could buy a pick. Personally if I buy a second round pick it would be for Will Barton. He's my second round sleeper.
OP, this player is one thing we agree on. Kevin Jones would be a steal late in the 1st round. I can't see him lasting to the 2nd round no matter what current mocks show.
What do you guys think about Jae Crowder in the second? I wouldn't call him a sleeper but he is another undersized PF who can actually guard threes. He can't really create his own shot but he can back down 3's, is more athletic and can shoot much better than Jones. He is like Parsons in that in the pinch he can guard all 5 positions. He is definitely a defensive specialist but he is also a winner. And could also be had in the second round maybe.
I think Crowder and his teammate Darius Johnson Odom are both going to hit the floor running. Speaking of Crowder, 50%FG%! He should go late 1st i think. I would choose him with the Dallas pick if we were not able to trade for a lower pick. It would almost be a crime to draft Crowder if he were to go in the 2nd.
i really like Kevin Jones, but have some concerns about how his game will translate to the pros. He's a blue collar undersized PF. Whereas there are plenty of cases of tweeners being productive at the PF in the NBA, they are usually a bit more athletic, and use that to compensate. The one thing Jones has going for him, other than his heart, is that he seems to use his body well to boxer players out and get good position. But i just don't think he's got the length to bang inside without other 4's having a block party. He's certainly worth a 2nd round flyer, but i don't see DeJuan Blair. Maybe....
