Good article on Ginoboli but has some really nice tidbits about Scola. Not sure if this should be moved but here it is.

I remember when I wanted to trade TMac for Manu - got hammered for it, but I knew he was the better player.

Reminds me of Jeff Van Gundy's poor Honda Civic that was blown over three cars by a blast from a jet engine as the Knicks were arriving to the airport.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
LA TIMES, MAY, 2000] IN AN ACCIDENT AS THE NEW YORK KNICKS ARRIVED HOME FROM MIAMI, A JET BLAST FROM THEIR CHARTER PLANE LIFTED COACH JEFF VAN GUNDY’S CAR AIRBORNE AND SENT IT HURDLING OVER THREE OTHER VEHICLES.

VAN GUNDY’S CAR, A 1995 HONDA CIVIC, WAS “TOTALLY DEMOLISHED,” POLICE SAID.

AS THE PLANE TAXIED TOWARD THAT AREA, THE PILOT REVVED ONE OF THE ENGINES IN ORDER TO TURN THE PLANE. THE BLAST SENT VAN GUNDY’S CAR SPINNING OVER THE TOPS OF THE OTHER CARS.

I loved watching Team Argentina those years. It was obvious how much they enjoyed playing together. Even the way they celebrated on the floor after wins was special.

IMO, giving Scola away to the Rockets and keeping Oberto another year cost the Spurs at least one championship.

This isn't an easy opinion to agree with. Not sure I do.

Manu is the consummate team player and a very well rounded player, but this is similar to the Harden vs Klay Thompson argument, I think.

Not in my eyes, Manu is a winner, Tmac - well.....he had talent.

Harden reminds me a lot of Manu, and I could see Manu putting up similar numbers if he would have been a featured star in somewhere in his prime.

Put TMac on those Spurs teams and he'd be a winner too.

I'm no McGrady fan at all but Manu won 4 championships because he played on extremely talented teams and had an all-time great coach.

false, he won everywhere he plays. Argentina, Italy, Olimpics, NBA
there are players that are winners: Kobe, Lebron, pau Gasol, Manu
and players with talent but they have not a winning mentality. Tmac, Dwight, Carmelo, Marc Gasol?

I hope Harden is in the first group.

Absolutely nothing in my post was false. Zero.

There is winning "everywhere else" and there is winning in the NBA. What a player does before the NBA means little or nothing when they join the big time.

Interesting you mention Pau and LeBron. Pau never would have won anything in the NBA if he weren't traded to the Lakers. LeBron would have continued to fail in dysfunctional Cleveland if he hadn't left for Miami.

well your previous post seemed as if Manu was not one of the biggest reasons they won championships. if that was your intention then yes that part is 100% false. if not carry on

of course other things happen (likebeing traded tothe lakers) to win a title. but Pau won a Gold medal and put Spain in an other level.
And Lebron is a monster, he win alone agains all the Golden State stars after a 1-3 start. watch again the last game.
he do what he has to do to win. He leaves Cleveland, and then Miami always looking to win. No matter what everybody was saying.
