After reading a post by haven, Article about this years draft depth, it reminded me of some of the sayings in sports that really bother me (not in any particular order):

    Defense wins championships
I think haven says it very well, please read his post from the above link.

The club has a winning tradition
What does that mean, it will never have a losing season? How does that explain the drought the Celtics or the Lakers (before this season) had.

This championship will be decided by the team with more heart
So... if two teams who have the same amount of heart played against each other, they will never finish the game?

This guy has been there, he knows how to win
I don't remember Steve Kerr contributing to the Spur's championship run. I don't remember Horry contributing last year. I don't remember Quitten coming through in the clutch for us or the Blazers.

They haven't been there, they don't know how to win yet. It will take them a couple of tries
Oh really? What about Cassell in his first 2 seasons here? He was a MAJOR contributor.

    You can't teach height
    It's harder to teach heart.

This is a making of a dynasty
That's what they said about the Hakeem/Sampson and O'Neal/Hardaway teams.

That's all I can think of for the moment, please chime in.

    Is he the next MJ?
Anyone who is young and can dunk.

    He is a great player.
Anyone who has a better then average season.Alot of "Great players" I have seen dissapper after a while.

    He's a future hall of fame'r.
Seems like this is said about WAY to many players in all sports.Hall of fames should be for the best, of the best. Not anyone who was good.

Anything said in a post match press conference!!! :p

They are a good young team with alot of tallent.
This realy means:We beat them, we knew we'd beat them. They'll be a lottery team for a long time!

We are just struggling for consistancy:
We are crap and we're not going to get better any time soon.I cant wait till my contract is up.

Im very happy to be here in (Insert city's name here) and I hope I can contribute to this teams success:
These guys just payed me a truck load of money!!!!!

I could go on all day but I'll stop now :p

lately Ive been getting annoyed with rhetoricaL questions of this ilk:

    How good is he?

    How great was that?

    How old is he?

    How big is he?

    How great is this game?

Costas and Collins have been doing that crap a lot, and it seems it has spread a little. Even onto this board.

    Such overpowering moves by Shaq
Camping in the paint for 12 seconds then going over the back of the defenders for a lay up.

We need a new stadium to keep the Astros competitive.

Current record: 26-45. Not very competitive.

I've recently been annoyed by "he's not the answer at (whatever position)." And, "I'm not sold on (player) yet."

And it has always annoyed people when they start a tirade with "I'm sorry." Sorry for what? Does that mean, "I'm sorry you're an idiot," or "Sorry that everything I'm about to say is offensive," or "I'm sorry that I'm about to burst your bubble and bring the world you know crashing down about your feet"? If you were sorry to say what you were going to say, why do you continue on to say it?

    TheFreak,

I read your post and now there is a question to ask.

Do you like Carlin or Gallagher better?

Mango -- I've never liked George Carlin, and I'm unfamiliar with Gallagher. Go figure.
